I am curious as to whether the User Account Control window requests confirmation before any part of the install starts, or if Microsoft just allows itself "to make changes to this computer" without consulting the owner of the hardware.

KB2952664 was published on April 22, 2014 and appears in my Windows Update List (I am running Windows 7 Pro - 64 bit).
The description of this update is vague: "This update helps Microsoft make improvements to the current operating system in order to ease the upgrade experience to the latest version of Windows."
Anyone have more information on what this update actually does? If its sole purpose is to ease the "upgrade" from Windows 7 to Windows 8 (or 8.1 or 8.1 update), then I'll just permanently hide KB2952664 (I have no desire or intention to "upgrade" my Windows 7 system to any flavor of Windows 8).
If its purpose is to ease what would be a true Windows 7 upgrade to a yet-to-be-announced Windows 7 SP2, then I'll keep it (but still would like to have more information about what KB2952664 actually does before installing).

The KB article does not hide anything: "This update installs the Get Windows 10 app that helps users understand their Windows 10 upgrade options and device readiness. " It is not clear what changed in the code to cause MS to re-release this update.

The last bailout point is if they agree to the win-10 terms of use.
The real insult to injury is if these same people did not bother to create a system image before all of the above
These people deserve to have win-10 one day out of the blue :)

The updated definitions will improve accuracy and help enable Microsoft and its partners ensure compatibility for customers who want to install the latest Windows operating system. This update will be offered only if KB2977759, KB2952664, or KB2976978 is installed on Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1), or Windows 7 RTM."

Kinda makes you wonder if the company grew a conscience, or legal counsel is starting to get nervous that the stealth approach might not end well for them.
