What exactly does KB2952664 do?

KB2952664 was published on April 22, 2014 and appears in my Windows Update List (I am running Windows 7 Pro - 64 bit).

The description of this update is vague:  "This update helps Microsoft make improvements to the current operating system in order to ease the upgrade experience to the latest version of Windows."

Anyone have more information on what this update actually does? If its sole purpose is to ease the "upgrade" from Windows 7 to Windows 8 (or 8.1 or 8.1 update), then I'll just permanently hide KB2952664 (I have no desire or intention to "upgrade" my Windows 7 system to any flavor of Windows 8).

If its purpose is to ease what would be a true Windows 7 upgrade to a yet-to-be-announced Windows 7 SP2, then I'll keep it (but still would like to have more information about what KB2952664 actually does before installing).

    I also only use IE if I have a problem with my default browser (Firefox), and even then just to check whether the problem is with Firefox or the website I am having trouble with.

    I have no problem ignoring ALL updates to IE11, and when I do have to use it, doing so in a sandbox.

    My concern is that MicroShove has now crossed a very clear line, and will no doubt be using Windows security updates as trojan horses with increasingly vague mentions of "nonsecurity-related fixes" which will become "other critical issues." Because, after all, getting folks onto Windows 10 whether they want it or not is critical to MicroShove's plans.

    It is starting to look like the day I will start using my Windows 7 computer offline only (and something Linux-based online) will come sooner than I thought. Oh well, it's been a decent run for a couple of decades (a few if you count DOS), but all things must pass...

    With a few exceptions, Microsoft is no longer supporting back-level versions of IE. Only IE 11 is supported.

    Even if you never use IE 11, it is important to keep it up to date and install security patches for IE 11. The reason for this is that IE  is built in to the Windows operating system, and all versions of Windows (7, 8, and 10) use various functions of IE (regardless of whether you use IE as a browser). So to keep your version of Windows protected, you have to keep IE up to date. Microsoft knows this, and thus appears to be using IE security updates to pull in non-security updates that will coerce the installation of Windows 10. Ugh!

    I guess I'm just gonna have to rely on my third-party security software to do its job. And up my doomsday readiness with more frequent backups. And I guess accept that "sooner than I thought" is even sooner than that.

    Accepting trojan nagware is not an option. I will send my tax returns by snail mail and find the nearest branch of my bank before I willingly hand over the keys to my computer to MicroShove.

    Another update - I was just listening to Thom Hartmann's radio talk show, and during his show one of the MS computers that he uses in his studio auto-installed Windows 10.  So, that computer was not accessible during his show.  Near the end of his show the installation completed, and one of Thom's assistants, who, I believe is a lawyer, looked at the license agreement and decided to click "DECLINE", at which  time the computer started reverting to the previous version of Windows.

    Should be interesting if the reverting doesn't go well :)

    Which it rarely does ;)

    We need more lawyers and judges to get whacked by corrupting there installs/ not genuine good stuff like that.
