What exactly does KB2952664 do?

KB2952664 was published on April 22, 2014 and appears in my Windows Update List (I am running Windows 7 Pro - 64 bit).

The description of this update is vague:  "This update helps Microsoft make improvements to the current operating system in order to ease the upgrade experience to the latest version of Windows."

Anyone have more information on what this update actually does? If its sole purpose is to ease the "upgrade" from Windows 7 to Windows 8 (or 8.1 or 8.1 update), then I'll just permanently hide KB2952664 (I have no desire or intention to "upgrade" my Windows 7 system to any flavor of Windows 8).

If its purpose is to ease what would be a true Windows 7 upgrade to a yet-to-be-announced Windows 7 SP2, then I'll keep it (but still would like to have more information about what KB2952664 actually does before installing).

    I have thought a lot about this and I believe that Microsoft's behavior is getting close to a sign of desperation. 

    They would have never acted this way in the old days when all was rosy and anyone who thinks that they are doing this for the "good of the internet" is naive. They are doing it for themselves.

    It's sad for me, because I've been using Microsoft products practically all my adult life and to see it come to this is sad. The only thing I will really give Microsoft credit for is that I believe that they really did try to adopt the company to the new world of "mobile and devices" and it simply hasn't worked. That is more than can be said for companies like Oracle who is still in the 1990's. So from that standpoint Microsoft deserves some credit.

    So you would rather M$ make a new KB... for us to keep track of too and keep the other KB.. hidden ?

    No, I would rather that when a KB number is hidden by the user, that KB number remains hidden. If I don't want an update designed to ease the upgrade (sic) experience to the latest version of Windows, I don't want future (probably minor) revisions of the same update.

    Microsoft's behaviour is nothing other than an underhanded attempt to sneak these updates in, knowing that each time they are unhidden, some users will miss them and inadvertently install them.

    Many updates keep the same kb# silverlight.........

    Microsoft's not informing customers that a previously hidden update (by user) is being unhidden (by Microsoft) is what's sneaky.

    It would be easy enough for Windows Update to pop up a warning saying something like this: "A hidden update on your computer (kbxxxxxx) has been re-issued. Do you want to unhide it? Yes. No."
