I have thought a lot about this and I believe that Microsoft's behavior is getting close to a sign of desperation.
They would have never acted this way in the old days when all was rosy and anyone who thinks that they are doing this for the "good of the internet" is naive. They are doing it for themselves.
It's sad for me, because I've been using Microsoft products practically all my adult life and to see it come to this is sad. The only thing I will really give Microsoft credit for is that I believe that they really did try to adopt the company to the new world of "mobile and devices" and it simply hasn't worked. That is more than can be said for companies like Oracle who is still in the 1990's. So from that standpoint Microsoft deserves some credit.
