What exactly does KB2952664 do?

KB2952664 was published on April 22, 2014 and appears in my Windows Update List (I am running Windows 7 Pro - 64 bit).

The description of this update is vague:  "This update helps Microsoft make improvements to the current operating system in order to ease the upgrade experience to the latest version of Windows."

Anyone have more information on what this update actually does? If its sole purpose is to ease the "upgrade" from Windows 7 to Windows 8 (or 8.1 or 8.1 update), then I'll just permanently hide KB2952664 (I have no desire or intention to "upgrade" my Windows 7 system to any flavor of Windows 8).

If its purpose is to ease what would be a true Windows 7 upgrade to a yet-to-be-announced Windows 7 SP2, then I'll keep it (but still would like to have more information about what KB2952664 actually does before installing).

    Just a note to let folks know to keep an eye out for it - they're trying to sneak it in again.

    Also, watch out for KB2990214 - Update that enables you to upgrade from Windows 7 to a later version of Windows.

    Caveat emptor.

    i just ran a Windows Update on my Windows 7 Pro 32-bit system, and I did not see KB2990214 as a patch to install.  I installed that patch for the first and only time on April 12.

    If you already installed it, you wouldn't see it again in available updates.

    I mention it above because, like the update that is the subject of this thread, it is not needed by those who have no intention of downgrading Windows 7 to a later version.

    I have not yet looked at that URL.  When I see a patch such as KB2990214 already installed, I cannot assume that it will not appear again, with changes.  The patch that started this thread, KB2952664, has been installed 12 different times on my system (04/28/2014

    • 04/09/2015).  Of course, KB890030 (MRT.exe) appears every patch Tuesday, plus an extra appearance this month.

    I also am running windows 7 and would like to keep it. Windows 8 and 8.1 both suck and as such, why would I even try 10? We love to be able to play our games and I have a experience rating of 7.8 only because the solid state hard drive is slow. I'm running Windows 7 with SP1 64bit. Since this is a attempt by Microsoft to influence people to purchase or upgrade I will remove this update.
