What exactly does KB2952664 do?

The description Microsoft provided with KB2952664 states this:

This update helps Microsoft make improvements to the current operating system in order to ease the upgrade experience to the latest version of Windows.

I will never install Windows 8.x on any of my computers (and thus never install KB2952664).

Hi, I try anything new at the home office before allowing it near my business; windows 10 is good as it made my old PC run much faster and more smoothly, but couldn't stomach the Metro Interface on a none touch screen computer. Cured it using Classic Shell free download, (Google it) now got best of both worlds, classic desktop and controls, W8 speed. Tried 10 but too many things to tweak so will wait until sorted and Classic Shell catches up. Windows 8.1 has the start button back thank goodness.

Chassis of Windows 8.1 & 10 is good, just the arbritrary decision to force a brand new set of controls on us all with desktops when this disrupts too much of our business was utterly wrong.

Microsoft needs to answer these questions ...

1. Exactly what is wrong with the current upgrade experience that warrants a fix to ease the upgrade experience?
2. In what ways does KB2952664 improve the process of upgrading to Windows 8.x??
3. What impact/consequences would one experience by initiating an upgrade to Windows 8.x without previously installing KB2952664?
4. If KB2952664 is needed to upgrade, then why not just have the upgrade process itself automatically pull in KB2952664 at the point in time that a user upgrades?

KB2952664 is just about a year old, and I suspect that Microsoft will never answer the above questions.

I installed the patch, as I do with all MS-released patches.  I checked my logs (I keep a log of all software changes I make to the Windows system), and today was the 11th time I have installed a patch with this KB number.;  The first time was 04/28/3014.  There is no information in the KB article about why this patch is continually being re-released, and I made a comment about that after I read the KB article.

Just got off chat with a Microsoft Tech.. an basically was told that the update was "only important" if you wanted to go through with updating to Win 8x or 8.1, an if not.. then the update "CAN BE" hidden.. without any issues...

And yet once more, does this update rear its ugly head... I am with Lang on this.. I want to KNOW the who's, what's, where, why's & how's, of an update.. an that goes for just why the heck this update is rated as "Important ".

As with Lang... I have No bloody intent to ever, EVER ... do the upgrade to 8x or 8.1... I will wait until Win 10, an only... ONLY after waiting until near the end of the " Free Upgrade " window. My reasons for this is, to avoid being a Win Op Sys guinea pig... period.

I, too, have to agree that it looks to be that a ton of the updates, are more in the nature of "Superfluous"... addressing issues that might or will never come up. To have a whole... ton, of updates that are essentially "useless" is the epitome of stupidity... more so, especially, when you consider that hard drives only have so much space to hold info, an that includes these so called "Important" updates... why have useless

, unnecessary drivel.... clogging up the works, when that space could be better used for more.. important apps, or programs... allowing for the user to do or use their computer for the reason or purpose of having bought it to begin with.

I went through the... nightmare of dealing with an update that  was tagged as "Important", an then not being able to find or install future updates, after having installed that update... ( I do not recall the exact KB number that was used for that particular update) & know that that update was re-released numerous times... unnecessarily... 

But back to the main point of my replying... Like Lang.. I want to know more info before "I" decide to do... "ANYTHING " & can't without "USEFUL" info... an suprisingly... Microsoft... wants to "CLAM UP".... when it needs to be forthcoming with info, if they want to be looked @ as trustworthy... period.
