What exactly does KB2952664 do?

KB2952664 was published on April 22, 2014 and appears in my Windows Update List (I am running Windows 7 Pro - 64 bit).

The description of this update is vague:  "This update helps Microsoft make improvements to the current operating system in order to ease the upgrade experience to the latest version of Windows."

Anyone have more information on what this update actually does? If its sole purpose is to ease the "upgrade" from Windows 7 to Windows 8 (or 8.1 or 8.1 update), then I'll just permanently hide KB2952664 (I have no desire or intention to "upgrade" my Windows 7 system to any flavor of Windows 8).

If its purpose is to ease what would be a true Windows 7 upgrade to a yet-to-be-announced Windows 7 SP2, then I'll keep it (but still would like to have more information about what KB2952664 actually does before installing).

    Everyone has to make their own decision but this last revelation about pushing Windows 10 to people that didn't ask for it is the last straw for me.

    What kind of company downloads an entire operating system to a users machine without their consent or knowledge?

    It's just not right.

    I've already deleted the Windows 10 download that was downloaded on my machine and am in the process of deleting all the telemetry related updates from lists that i've collected from various sources.

    Maybe in a year and a half or so when all the bugs are out, and Microsoft comes to their senses, I'll be back. In the meantime, I'll sit back and watch the circus.

    In addition to Microsoft releasing updates that collect and report information, there's the issue of Microsoft pushing (downloading) Windows 10 installation files (3GB to 6GB in size) to users who have not reserved a copy and have not expressed any interest in Windows 10.

    They're still trying to sneak this through, along with others, some new, some old.

    What are you trying to prove? You are simply demonstrating what I said in my previous message. Your list might have been shorter if you had set Windows Update to Check for updates but let me choose whether to download and install them.

    All I was trying to "prove" is to state the dates that I installed the KB2922664 update.  I have the referenced option set, because I do not want Windows Update to install a patch when I am not at the machine.  I install ALL patches that appear in WU unless I have seen previous notice that the patch causes problems.  I have never hidden KB2922664, and it has not,

    as far as I know, caused problems on my Windows 7 Professional system.  The only patches I have hidden were on my Windows XP system, where WU insisted that I needed to install two .NET 1.1 patches; i no longer had .NET 1.1  installed.  I had two later versions installed.

    My initial query that started this long thread was this - What does that patch do?
