What exactly does KB2952664 do?

Microsoft needs to provide a new option for Windows 7 and 8.

The option needs to say: "Do you want Windows 10" and have two settings: "Yes" and "No".

If the user selects "No", then Microsoft should honor the customer's choice and STOP all further attemps to nag, coerce, sneak, or trick the user into installing Windows.

Microsoft needs to understand that (with respect to Windows 10) no means NO.

If Microsoft wants their customers to install Windows 10, then they (Microsoft) should market Windows 10 based on its merits (if any) rather than by using trickery, coercion, and nagging.

If customers are rejecting Windows 10 because they feel that Windows 10 is not significantly better than older versions of Windows, then (rather than using coersion to get customers to install Windows 10) .... Microsoft should do something more customer friendly .... such as listening to customer's complaints and making Windows 10 so technically innovative that customers will be drawn to it (without having to be coerced).

Hmmmmm technical innovation in their Operating System .... now there's something Microsoft should try to do. I cannot remember the last time Microsoft made some significant innovation in their Operating System. HINT: technical innovation does NOT mean trying to create an Operating System that runs on every device in the market .... from thermostats to cell phones to desktops/laptops to servers to etc. One size DOES NOT fit all.

I had exactly the same thoughts when reading the previous comment.  BOTH -- that they are being more up front about it, and I wonder if someone told them what liability they were opening themselves for if they sneak it in.

Do we know if they have changed the details on the previous ones?  AND more importantly, there was an IE security update that threw in some annoyware for this -- have they removed that from the security update?  (I forget the number, but it popped in tech news on yahoo and elsewhere.)

It does seem that Microsoft is becoming a bit more forthcoming in its descriptions.

Kinda makes you wonder if the company grew a conscience, or legal counsel is starting to get nervous that the stealth approach might not end well for them.

A new update, KB3150513, appeared today.  MS says, "This update provides updated configuration and definitions for compatibility diagnostics performed on the system. The updated definitions will improve accuracy and help enable Microsoft and its partners ensure compatibility for customers who want to install the latest Windows operating system. This update will be offered only if KB2977759, KB2952664, or KB2976978 is installed on Windows 8.1, Windows 8, Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1), or Windows 7 RTM."

For people that were silly enough to reserve win-10 upgrade = get what they asked for.

The last bailout point is if they agree to the win-10 terms of use.

The real insult to injury is if these same people did not bother to create a system image before all of the above

These people deserve to have win-10 one day out of the blue :)
