Qualcomm Atheros Bluetooth not working with Windows 8.1

Hello,

I am using a brand-new Samsung Atib Tab 3 tablet (XE300TZC-K01FR). I have installed the latest windows 8.1 release and now cannot use the bluetooth keyboard anymore. Seems that the issue is coming from the bluetooth card drivers (code 10 error - cannot start). What should I do now ?

It is impacting dramatically my work productivity as I can now only use the virtual keyboard. Will a fix be published very very soon?? I do not understand why it is always such a pain with Microsoft products. No wonder the company is loosing marketshares.. I do not expect revolutionnary products but at least something that do work properly...

I had the exact same problem and fixed it myself. Here's how to do this:

Go to device manager and find the Qualcomm Bluetooth Atheros device

Then double click on it and on the drivers tab, select uninstall driver but make sure that you select "Remove driver from computer" or something to that effect.

Then rescan your computer by clicking on the small rescan icon on the top left of the device manager window.

The Atheros device will now show up as unkown device. Open it up and select install driver and don't select internet but select C: drive and check the subfolder box.

It will take a while but after a few minutes, it will install the right driver and then you need to repair your keyboard.

    Hi everyone, 

    If you have a Win 8.1 Machine with built-in Bluetooth from Qualcomm Atheros Communications, the Bluetooth may no longer work after you've upgraded to 8.1; this happened to me.

    If you go to Device Manager, there is a Bluetooth section and in it there is a thing called "Bluetooth USB Module."  Actually, the Qualcomm Atheros Communications Bluetooth is built into the Wifi Adaptor, but that does not really matter.

    Acer (but probably other manufacturers as well) have not updated the drivers for this device to Win 8.1 yet on their sites.  The Atheros website is also useless.

    I found the Win 8.1 Driver (64 bit) here:  http://drivers.softpedia.com/progDownload/Acer-Aspire-V5-573P-Atheros-Bluetooth-Driver-801305-for-Windows-81-64-bit-Download-306204.html

    I have an Acer Aspire Desktop, so I can verify that it works for Acer.  Might also work for other PC Manufacturers, but not sure.

    It's a big download (over 300 mb), but it fixed the issue for me:

    Download the zip file; extract all

    Open "Install CD" folder

    Find "setup" and run it

    Restart machine after it's done

    I suggest that no one do this. If you choose 'remove driver from computer' you have no driver to reinstall (because you just told the computer to remove it). This is terrible advice. I know because I just fixed someone's computer who followed the advice given here. We ultimately had to resort to a system restore. I am uncertain if this person is being serious or trolling. Microsoft needs to better monitor the "help" in these forums.

    I recommend that anyone scouring these help forums check for advice given by actual Microsoft affiliated users when looking (it usually appears as a Microsoft icon next to their username in the forums). This is just disastrous advice.

    I suggest removing the driver from the computer is only really bad when you do not have a more recent and functioning driver available.

    If the driver in question is a problem then it can be removed, but only if for some reason it keeps getting used instead of the functioning more recent driver.

    My problem with Win 8.1 is that I keep getting error messages for my webcam where I have an up to date driver but for some reason I keep having to re-install the up to date driver.

    There is a qualcom Atheros update available from MS for 8.1 but for some reason MS can't seem to install it.

    I wish I could revert to XP but now I seem trapped in 8.1 and the last thing I want is to have to change to open source now that Win 10 free upgrade is out of the question (Like Spotify, MS has decided there is more money in selling our data with access to private files, folders, email contacts etc so I cancelled my download and that's the last MS OS for me. )
