Qualcomm Atheros Bluetooth not working with Windows 8.1

This issue might occur if there are no Bluetooth drivers installed or if they are corrupted. Follow these methods and check if it helps:

Method 1:

I would also suggest you to run the Hardware and devices troubleshooter to troubleshoot the device:

a. Press Windows key to launch the Start screen.

b. Type “Troubleshooting” without quotes and click on Troubleshooting.

c. In the new window, click View all on the left pane.

d. In the list of options, click on Hardware and devices.

e. Click Next and follow the on-screen instructions.

Method 2:

I would also suggest you to start the Bluetooth service and set it to Automatic:

a.     Go to the Start screen.

b.    Type “Services.msc” without quotes and press Enter.

c.     Right click on Bluetooth support service and click on Properties.

d.    Set the Startup type as Automatic and then click Start under Service status.

e.    Click on OK.

Method 3:

I would suggest you to check if you have installed all the updates on the computer. There are chances that you might get Bluetooth drivers through update:

a.     Go to the Start screen.

b.    Type “Windows update” without quotes and click on it from the list of results.

c.     Click on Check for updates on the left pane in the new window.

You may also install the Bluetooth drivers by downloading it from the manufacturer’s website.

I am using a brand-new Samsung Atib Tab 3 tablet (XE300TZC-K01FR). I have installed the latest windows 8.1 release and now cannot use the bluetooth keyboard anymore. Seems that the issue is coming from the bluetooth card drivers (code 10 error - cannot start). What should I do now ?

It is impacting dramatically my work productivity as I can now only use the virtual keyboard. Will a fix be published very very soon?? I do not understand why it is always such a pain with Microsoft products. No wonder the company is loosing marketshares.. I do not expect revolutionnary products but at least something that do work properly...

I had the exact same problem and fixed it myself. Here's how to do this:

Go to device manager and find the Qualcomm Bluetooth Atheros device

Then double click on it and on the drivers tab, select uninstall driver but make sure that you select "Remove driver from computer" or something to that effect.

Then rescan your computer by clicking on the small rescan icon on the top left of the device manager window.

The Atheros device will now show up as unkown device. Open it up and select install driver and don't select internet but select C: drive and check the subfolder box.

It will take a while but after a few minutes, it will install the right driver and then you need to repair your keyboard.

Thanks for providing this solution. I had a similar problem connecting an Apple Bluetooth keyboard after upgrading my Atom-based slate to 8.1 (The keyboard worked fine on Windows 8). It listed a generic Bluetooth device. I had to go through slightly different steps:

After I uninstalled the driver (and checked the box to delete any driver files) and then rescanned, the "QualComm Atheros AR3011 Bluetooth 3.0" device showed up without having to do anything else.  However, that driver did not work, even after rebooting.

After rebooting, I had to ask Windows to find an update to the driver online. It appeared to find the same driver (at least the friendly name was the same. not sure if there was an update in the version number or not).

Only then did the Apple Keyboard pair properly with Windows 8.1 Anyway glad it is working.

I'm having the same problem with my Samsung laptop. Upgrade to 8.1 and now my Bluetooth doesn't work. I tried your solution but there is nothing under "Device Manager" that says either Atheros or Bluetooth. Any suggestions?
