Tried ALL your answers.  Nothing works.  PC is fine for a few days then we go through a day or two of unexpected shutdowns.  Can't even restart.  I press the button.  It may start, it may not.  It might shutdown at any point from that first boot screen to hours and hours later.  The Event Viewer gives NO CLUE as it's full of exactly the same error messages that every one else is getting.

SERIOUSLY MICROSOFT, what are the chances of so many people suddenly all developing the SAME FAULT all in the same period (since Windows 8.1)????????????????

There is a bug in your O/S somewhere.  Surely you can see that???????????????  I have tried all the troubleshooters, all the stuff you've stated, and a whole load more.  GOOGLE IT!!!  There are tons of users with the same issues in the last month!!!!  Guaranteed way to get us all trying LINUX.

Please look deeper into this issue, rather than fobbing us all off with the usual cut & pasted list of possible fixes.

Thanks.  And if you could give us a way to turn off that damn Task Scheduler on our own PC's then that would be nice, too.

UPDATE:  After writing that email I went through all the troubleshooters you suggest.  They were useless.  I did a sfc/scannow and it reported file integrity as 100% perfect.  I re-did the whole list.

THEN I tried something...  I went into the settings and changed the "page file" size from a Windows-managed size to a massive 7GB as a manual setting.  Suddenly the whole machine is quicker and I've yet to have a shutdown.  I will report back if it shutsdown, or if it doesn't.  But I'm wondering if the problem is related to poor management of virtual memory by Win'8.1...  That would explain random shutdowns and inability to store logs, etc, wouldn't it?  Like I say, it may shutdown any minute (I may have just got lucky) but please consider this...  If you have the fault and are reading this, please try it and see if it helps...  So far my PC is so much better!  Bad pagefile management, d'ya think????

    Anannya,

    1.  Yes, I am experiencing unexpected shut-downs, thus far 2 occurrences.

    2.  After shut down the computer does not restart or resume.

    3.  I require clarification as to what you need to see from the event viewer to assist me.

    Thank you,

    Antonella

    Hi Antonella,

We see that the event logs provided by you, contains warning.

    1. Are you facing the same issue as the original poster in this thread?
    2. Is your computer shutting down unexpectedly?

If that is the case then I would suggest you to disable automatic restarton system failure and check what happens when the system shuts down unexpectedly. Update us with the same so that we can investigate the issue.

    Hi,

If you suspect it has something to do with the power settings, let’s run the power troubleshooter and check if that detects anything.

    a) Press '**Windows + W’**key on the

    keyboard.

    b) In the search box, type ‘Troubleshooting’, and press Enter.

    c) Click on ‘**System and Security’**and click on Power. Click on Next to run the troubleshooter.

    d) Follow the onscreen instructions to run the troubleshooter.

Also it would be easier for us to understand if you summarize the issue once again.

Please provide us the event log of the time when the computer shuts down.

In the Event viewer, expand "Windows Logs" > System and post us the logs.
