MS forced install to Windows 8.1 after I click on Remind me later.

* Original Title: MS Hijacked my computer & forced install to 8.1

I know there are other posts about that blue ribbon that asks if you want to install 8.1 - OR - rudely interrupts at inconvenient times (like during client presentations) and forces a restart (to update) without any way to postpone it. 

BUT - JUST NOW ... a blue ribbon popped up about a restart (this one looked like it had a postponement drop down) and no option to cancel. I thought I had requested a postponement but INSTEAD IT STARTED AN UPGRADE TO 8.1 WITHOUT MY APPROVAL ... WORSE ... no ability to interrupt, no ability to close open apps, no ability to do a backup first. Right now it's doing setup (about 82% complete.

I work independently, cannot afford downtime. 

IF I have to pay to have my laptop fixed I want Microsoft to pay for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  But I will defintely drop back to Windows 7 or buy a MAC.

HELP, PLEASE!!!  (and thank you!!!)

    I was also "upgraded" without my permission, and I lost functionality because of it. My company's VPN doesn't even support Windows 8.1, so I was not able to get work done that required connectivity. Not that I ever liked Windows 8 - it took me a lot of effort to get rid of the gaudy tile screen, but at least I was able to make it function.

    So, I have installed Windows 7 and rebuilt my machine, costing me two full days of effort. I'm THIS CLOSE to buying a Mac next time I need to replace my laptop.

    My thoughts exactly! Eventhough I've had limited experience with MAC's in the past, MS's irresponsible and blatant disregard for it's customers has forced me to look elsewhere, when it comes to my next computing purchase.

    It has forced the upgarde on me too.

    the upgrade has disrupted all my settings, certain of my programmes no longer work as the are not patched for 8.1 and it's uninstalled my Printer!  Is Microsoft sending out new printers to anyone who's old one is no longer compatible?!  This is insane, I have spent a day having to reformat my PC after your "upgrade".  that's a days business LOST!

    Microsoft, should think a little harder before hi-jacking peoples computers and forcing them into this situation.  where can I send the bill for 8 hours of my time to fix the aftermath of your whims, oh and that new printer?

    I'm still **** off over the whole thing. Didn't like Windows 8, but had to get used to it..then MS pull this stupid stunt....And better yet, just ignore the people whose pc's/laptops were hijacked and forced into downloading 8.1.....ignore the inconvenience, the cost, the stress, the trouble. Customer service MS....ever hear of it!!!!!!!
