MS forced install to Windows 8.1 after I click on Remind me later.

* Original Title: MS Hijacked my computer & forced install to 8.1

I know there are other posts about that blue ribbon that asks if you want to install 8.1 - OR - rudely interrupts at inconvenient times (like during client presentations) and forces a restart (to update) without any way to postpone it. 

BUT - JUST NOW ... a blue ribbon popped up about a restart (this one looked like it had a postponement drop down) and no option to cancel. I thought I had requested a postponement but INSTEAD IT STARTED AN UPGRADE TO 8.1 WITHOUT MY APPROVAL ... WORSE ... no ability to interrupt, no ability to close open apps, no ability to do a backup first. Right now it's doing setup (about 82% complete.

I work independently, cannot afford downtime. 

IF I have to pay to have my laptop fixed I want Microsoft to pay for it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  But I will defintely drop back to Windows 7 or buy a MAC.

HELP, PLEASE!!!  (and thank you!!!)

    I updated to windows 8.1 a few months ago and it was HORRIBLE. None of my apps work, wifi wouldn't hold a connection, when the apps did work they were very slow. When I tried to download and app or update an app using the store it would always say there was no connection when clearly there was because I was surfing the internet at the same time. Windows 8.1 just made my computer really slow that it was hard to use when I needed it the most. I got so fed with Windows 8.1 that some kind of way I found a way to downgrade to windows 8. Now its asking me to update and only giving me the option of installing it in 4 hours instead of the usual remind me later option. I refuse to update till Microsoft gets their heads out of their butts and fix these problems.

    I recommend that you edit the registry and turn off the "Upgrade Available" notification. If you do be sure to reboot your computer (this is the last step to complete after editing your registry). When I got the Four Hours warning before upgrade, I could not stop it. I will try to find you the link for how to edit the registry.

    I could not find the link to edit the registry (sorry, it was a clear method). However, I did find this link to remove the 8.1 from a previous installed update. It is a Microsoft link.     Five weeks after my forced update from W8 to Win8.1....and I'm hating it. IE11 is giving me problems with Zoom, plus my native screen resolution of 1980X1080 does not read as well with W 8.1, for instance my Bing bar is stretched-much longer and thinner than when I had !E10. The font is not as good as W8. And, yes, my graphic card drivers are win 8.1 compatible, installed correctly, and up to date.

    They don't care. Im going threw the same thing. This is pure bs. They have some balls destroying peoples computers forcibly. Then reply with statements like its your fault. DISGUSTING.
