mouse lag in video games since updating to win 8.1

We have issued a fix to address most of the “mouse lag” issues associated with gaming in Windows 8.1, which vary based on the game, input methods used, etc. More details on the issue and available resolutions are available via KB 2908279, and affected customers can go to the Microsoft Download Center to install the update

It actually also seems to fix the problems in World of Warcraft even thought it's not listed as one of the games it applies to.

I have read the update page, but still have a question. Since mouse polling check tools need to have the registry extension applied to them, does that mean only the games/programs/applications that have had this extension applied will receive the full poll rate capable of the mouse used?

In other words, will my 1000 Hz Logitech mouse only be 1000 Hz in applications I've manually edited in the registry?

The update didn't work for Dark Age of Camelot, so I will try going through the process of updating the registry.

How to extend the update to other games

Important Follow the steps in this section carefully. Serious problems might occur if you modify the registry incorrectly. Before you modify it, back up the registry for restoration

The update also includes an extension mechanism to resolve this issue in additional games. If you encounter this issue in games that are not listed in the "Games that the update applies to" section, follow these steps to extend the update coverage:

1. Click Start, type regedit.exe in the Start Search box, and then press Enter.
2. Click Yes if the User Account Control dialog box is displayed.
3. Browse to the following folder:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AppCompatFlags\Layers

Note If the Layers key does not exist, right-click AppCompatFlags, click New, click Key, and then type Layers to create the key. 4. Create a new registry entry for the game. To do this, right-click Layers, click New, click String Value, type the full path of the game’s executable file in the box, and then press Enter. 5. Right-click the value, and then click Modify. In the Value data field, type NoDTToDITMouseBatch, and then press Enter. 6. Click OK to confirm the change. The registry key in Registry Editor should resemble the entry in the following screen shot.

Important You should apply the registry key mechanism only to games that are known to be affected by this issue. If you set this registry key outside the scope of the games that require this registry key, the performance of the computer battery may be affected. Specifically, do not apply the registry key mechanism to long-running background and notification area processes.

I have just downloaded and installed the fix for this Windows 8.1 Mouse problem and when I checked Mouse movement with Mouse Movement Recorder the problem is still there! even in game with Raw Mouse Input on. This is a joke for people that play games, Im gona have to do a clean install of windows 8 again now Grrrr :(
