We have issued a fix to address most of the “mouse lag” issues associated with gaming in Windows 8.1, which vary based on the game, input methods used, etc. More details on the issue and available resolutions are available via KB 2908279, and affected customers can go to the Microsoft Download Center to install the update

On a sidenote, people also report refreshrate being locked to 200Hz, even when setting it to 1000 or 500 in their mousedrivers.

Affected Game: Deus Ex Human Revolution

    OS Version: Windows 8.1 64-bit

Mouse hardware: Microsoft Intellimouse Optical (USB)

Mouse Driver: Microsoft Intellipoint (auto-installed by MS Update)

    Video Card: Asus 670-DC2-2GD5

    Video Driver: NVidia 331.58 WHQL

Menu lag is extremely prevalent. This was not an issue in Windows 8, only presented after upgrading.

    Steps taken to resolve:

    1. Removed MS Intellimouse Optical.
    2. Installed friend's Razer Naga mouse
    3. Installed Razer Synapse 2 software
    4. Configured Polling Interval to 1000, result: game works perfectly
    5. Configured Polling Interval to 500, result: slight menu lag
    6. Configured Polling Interval to 125, result: horrible lag
    7. Re-connected MS Intellimouse Optical
    8. Both mice connected in game: razer is perfect and Intellimouse is horrible.

I'll note, DXHR works fine in windowed mode.

Did they say what kind of mouse they're using?

system specs for two systems I have:

    system one:

    Thermaltake EVO 750watt psu

    GA-MA970A-UD3 Gigabyte motherboard version 1.1

XFX HD6850 1GB AMD graphics card

Logitech G5 laser gaming mouse (I usually run it on 500mhz, and 1000mhz.)

    System two:

Corsair AX850watt psu Gold efficiency rating

    GA-MA770t-UD3P Gigabyte motherboard version 1.0

EVGA GTX 480 1536MB Graphics card

Logitech G5 laser gaming mouse (blue version with more buttons)

I am sure that Microsoft will come up with something eventually and also Mark C usually comes through with something good. It's just a waiting game now. Perhaps they just didn't know of the problem before.

Well as I've said before I'm using a CM Storm Reaper and a Corsair Vengeance M65, both of which are set to run at 1000Hz but in Windows 8.1 are limited to 200Hz, at least that's what I get using the software by Mark C
