We have issued a fix to address most of the “mouse lag” issues associated with gaming in Windows 8.1, which vary based on the game, input methods used, etc. More details on the issue and available resolutions are available via KB 2908279, and affected customers can go to the Microsoft Download Center to install the update
mouse lag in video games since updating to win 8.1
hi all ive noticed that in some games in win 8.1 there is serious mouse lag . this makes some games almost unplayable now. this is a serious issue especially since many gamers upgraded for the benefits ingames but now cant play do to the mouse lag issues.
for me its in call of duty 4 aka modern warfare 1. there are numerous articles now about this issue and with certain games .

as you can see this isnt a isolated issue and needs fixing asap. especially with many big titles just coming in the next few weeks on pc !
how can this be sent higher up so this issue is resolved ? thanks.

2013-10-23T23:03:14+00:00 Please fix this issue Microsoft. Don't force us to leave.
It's not only in games. Acceleration happens while just using the desktop and no, we will not be buying an XBOX to remedy the situation. We bought pc's to game because that is what we like. If I had to choose a console over this issue, more than likely I will be going the PlayStation or Nintendo route.
If another gamer is reading this. Please take this link and post it on as many gaming sites as possible. Maybe Microsoft will take notice when more people comment.

2013-10-23T22:10:45+00:00 After doing some testing in CSGO (I did a fresh reinstall and it's currently the only installed game I have). I'm rather baffled at how severe the issue is.
m_rawinput 1 (enabling rawinput through the game's console) ---> OK
m_rawinput 0 (disabling rawinput through the game's console) ---> NOK
Without rawinput I get massive amounts of negative acceleration (yes I'm aware that WM_MOUSEMOVE/GetCursorPos can already cause this, but the values used were OK in this aspect PRE win 8.1) and sometimes a weird spike of positive acceleration. This is with both "Enhance Pointer Precision" ticked on/off.
Please be adviced that most gamers prefer "Enhance Pointer Precision" ticked off (linear acceleration curve).
Hardware used to test:
Core i7 2600k
Gigabyte P67-UD4 b3
Corsair 8GB Vengeance 1600 Mhz
Samsung 840 Pro 512GB
Mice: Zowie FK, tested on both 2300 and 1150 dpi
Razer Deathadder Black Edition, tested on 900 and 1800 dpi
Steelseries Sensei, tested on a wide variety of dpi's (can be set in steps of 90)
CSGO was also not reinstalled, my games are on a steam library on a different partition, nor did CSGO receive any update or change (usually happens on thursdays for me).
The workaround (compatibility mode) did not solve the issue either.
I'm pretty sure they overlooked something when they implemented this:
From Mark Cranness blog:
"In Windows 7, mouse pointer movement is scaled according to DPI. For a given on-mouse-pad mouse movement, larger DPI settings cause larger on-screen pointer movement.
An internal calculation includes a factor '* DPI'."

Considering from what I have seen in CSGO this issue is rather severe. Thank god CSGO has rawinput, because any game that doesn't have rawinput is currently severely impaired.
That is good info; although this is going to be a tough one with other people reporting no issues even with similar HW configs.
i'll check CS GO even though I think if the issue is present it would have affected my other games by now.
Hi, just to report that I have the exact same problem since the installation of win 8.1. CSGO is unplayable with raw inpuit turned off : Mouse is so slow compared to before installation, and suffers many stuttering and unconsistant behovior.
Please MS solve this quickly !

2013-10-23T21:27:28+00:00 Based on your suggested settings, my guess is you have no custom software running for your mouse? most software tends to add its own "accel" values to the mouse' onboard memory, this is why I ask.

m_customaccel "0"
m_customaccel_exponent "0"
m_customaccel_max "0"
m_customaccel_scale "0"
m_mouseaccel1 "0"
m_mouseaccel2 "0"
m_mousespeed "0"
Might want to add these values to the console/autoexec of CSGO too, aside from just m_rawinput 0 when testing. They'll remove any possible form of ingame acceleration, so there's nothing that can "mask" the problem.
Also considering the negative acceleration I experienced, it might be possible that a high sensivity (800 dpi 3.0 ingame for example) could mask the problem as well.
Either way if they can't pinpoint the problem it would be nice to at least have some sort of "Revert back to old behavior" for the DPI scaling option or in the mouse panel. Obviously dpi scaling across multiple monitors won't be as nice but they can state that when we press the revert back button :p
