mouse lag in video games since updating to win 8.1

hi all ive noticed that in some games in win 8.1 there is serious mouse lag . this makes some games almost unplayable now. this is a serious issue especially since many gamers upgraded for the benefits ingames but now cant play do to the mouse lag issues.

for me its in call of duty 4 aka modern warfare 1. there are numerous articles now about this issue and with certain games .

as you can see this isnt a isolated issue and needs fixing asap. especially with many big titles just coming in the next few weeks on pc !

We have issued a fix to address most of the “mouse lag” issues associated with gaming in Windows 8.1, which vary based on the game, input methods used, etc. More details on the issue and available resolutions are available via KB 2908279, and affected customers can go to the Microsoft Download Center to install the update

    I downloaded the x64 update you linked in your comment but it is not letting me install the file. I continue to get an error message that states "windows update standalone installer: the update is not applicable to your computer."

    I'm currently running Win 8.1 Pro N x64. The main issues I've been having have been with Oblivion. I lose all mouse and keyboard response after 4-5 minutes but the game continues to run. The only fix I have found has been running the game in Windows 8 compatibility mode. However, this makes the game almost unplayable as it lags so hard that I cannot get through any of the dialogue.

    Please help!

    I don't know about "dodgy usb stacks", or if they have fixed that, sorry.

    I'm hoping people can re-test MouseRate.exe on Windows 8.1 and see what it shows...

    you say its reverted to 7/8 behaviour, I had a lot of issues with mouse lag on the last few os's, figured the lag was due to the dodgy usb stack (unsuitable for medical use, due to instability and micro lags. Microsoft whitepapers.) do you know if they have resolved that issue recently?! (ive been away for a while)
