Windows Update Error 8024402C

please help. I have a windows 8 computer I purchased in April 2013 ,there is a problem with checking for windows updates. error coded 8024402C. I have tried the trouble shooter and despite it saying the problem is fixed I still cannot get updates.  I also get a message that I have never tried to get an update.

Hi,

Error code 8024402C: This error might be caused by a program running on your computer that's preventing Windows Update Services (SVCHOST) from accessing the Internet. Programs that might do this include firewalls, antispyware software, web accelerators, Internet security or antivirus programs and proxy servers.

If you have any of these programs running, you might need to turn them off while downloading and installing updates. I would recommend you to turn them back on after updating your computer.

Method 1: Temporarily disable the Security software and see if the issue persists.

a: Press Windows logo + Q to open the search box.

b: Now click Settings and then type Action center, hit enter.

c: Click the Chevron next to security.

d: Turn off the Anti-virus installed on the computer.

Warning: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Method 2:Perform steps mentioned below and see if it helps.

a: On the Start screen, type cmd. Alternatively, swipe in from the right, tap or click Search, and then type c.

b: Tap or click cmd in the search results.

c: At the command prompt, type the following commands, and press Enter after each command:

net start bits

net start wuauserv

Hi,

If the computer is connected directly to the Internet or to a home network (and never connected to a network at work), you might need to set Internet Explorer to automatically detect local area network (LAN) settings so Windows Update can go online to obtain updates. To do this, follow these steps:

a: Open Internet Explorer

b: Click the Tools button, click Internet Options, click theConnections tab, and then click LAN settings.

b: Under Automatic configuration, select the Automatically detect settings check box, and then click OK.

    Hey!!! I have some problema in my PC (Surface RT) and I want to install Windows 8.1 from The Store. but come that message: You need to install the latest updates from Windows Update.

    But I cant do this because, show up an error called: Code 8024402C. Help me, please!!

    Thankyou very much for your quick reply, Mr. Shreen2008. I'm sure you provided  a proper solution for error code 8024402C, but I have been trying to set IPsec settings, import/export certificates and set Advanced Internet Security Settings, etc. These procedures that I am attempting to learn, with very limited computer settings knowledge, are far more complex than I could have imagined. I am taking notes (especially when I make changes), and learning to ask for Help! I haven't used a computer for quite a few years, and never owned one until now. I hesitate to contact Microsoft Support as I am not a paying customer. P.S. : with all my actions, I now have error code: 0x80070490. I thoroughly enjoy learning to troubleshoot problems, but could you or another M.S. Community member please help me again? I've tried Update diagnostics and repair program and 1 error is left to diagnose and repair. Have a nice day! P.S. again: I should have followed your instructions, especially since all steps were well organized and explained. I believe that my Windows Update Service failed because I made some Internet Security changes, or because I deleted several "text" files to free up disk space (20GB) worth. I received a 1 time message reading "you will no longer receive any info. from us, from Microsoft I think. If I have gone against some rule or modified a setting or program that I wasn't allowed to, I assure Microsoft and anyone reading this reply, that I acted out of ignorance.(absence of knowledge).
