Windows 8.1 Pro x64 UEFI very slow boot and shutdown

Ever since I upgraded to Windows 8.1 via the in-store update my PC takes a good 3-4 minutes to boot!!! I am on a GA-X79-UD3 + i7-3820 + Samsung SSD 840 for system drive. I have updated all my drivers to Windows 8.1 compatible ones and still. I have checked via Samsung Magician and the drive is using AHCI mode on (Intel PCH) Sata 3 6Gb/s.  I have tried restoring my UEFI to default settings and enabling Fast Boot but still?? On Windows 8 it would boot in 5 seconds....

EDIT: Have tried Safe Boot and Clean Boot, still same

EDIT2: Will any Microsoft guy chime in?

    The bigger this thread gets and the more complaints there are, hopefully MS will address it in an update sooner than later.  I switched back to Windows 8 and my boot time again is only 20 seconds so it's definitely an 8.1 issue for me.  My issue doesn't appear to be as bad as some here, but I was consistently getting 50 seconds - just over a minute with Win8.1.

    OK PPL, I found a small tweak that shaved about 20 seconds off my boot time, and I'm working now at under one minute (about 39 sec).

    1. Go to "Run" (from menu or use "Windows Key" + "R")
    2. In Run windows type "msconfig" and press "Enter"
    3. Click on "Boot" tab at the top
    4. In the bottom right you will see "Timeout:" with a box underneath with "seconds" on its right.
    5. By default my Timeout was "30" seconds; you can change that to "3"(the minimum value)
    6. Press "Apply" button then "OK"
    7. Windows will ask you to restart, close and save your applications and let it reboot, see if you have any improvement.

    Good luck, still want it faster though MICROSOFT; get on it blue boys!

    Thanks; I'd forgotten all about that; . Yes it shaved start time from, 60 to 30 seconds

    I have the same issue as all do here! Just since the 8.1 update.

    I've tried everything I know that I've learned over years of Windows use with no substantial change in startup/shutdown speeds.

    Extremely slow on my Dell 17r5720, i5, 8gb ram system.

    I hope it gets fixed soon!

    Same issue here. My laptop takes like 3-4 minutes to start up and 5 minutes to shut down, which is rather horrible. Anyone can shed light on how to revert back to windows 8? I've seen some of the comments that suggest they are able to switch back to version 8. I have make a backup with a recovery program, can i use that to go back to windows 8?
