Windows 8.1 Pro x64 UEFI very slow boot and shutdown

Ever since I upgraded to Windows 8.1 via the in-store update my PC takes a good 3-4 minutes to boot!!! I am on a GA-X79-UD3 + i7-3820 + Samsung SSD 840 for system drive. I have updated all my drivers to Windows 8.1 compatible ones and still. I have checked via Samsung Magician and the drive is using AHCI mode on (Intel PCH) Sata 3 6Gb/s.  I have tried restoring my UEFI to default settings and enabling Fast Boot but still?? On Windows 8 it would boot in 5 seconds....

EDIT: Have tried Safe Boot and Clean Boot, still same

EDIT2: Will any Microsoft guy chime in?

    Yep - Qualcomm Atheros driverwas the problem for me too, also the overall performance increased pretty good

    My best solution to all the Win8/8.1 problems was to return to Windows 7. This cured all my issues!

    I'm sorry Microsoft! I've been using Microsoft products since MSDos and the cost of ram was $50.00 a meg. Windows 8/8.1 is by far the worst OS they have had.

    Hopefully your next system will be better or I may become a Mac person.

    I experienced same issue with Lenovo x220 laptop - had Win8 and after upgrade to 8.1 system rebooted slowly, but shutdown/start operation was fast, also something prevented system to hibernate correctly. I analyzed log files and memory dumps, problem was in iastora.sys driver. Simply removed it, then after reboot system fell into BSOD, after it run into Safe Mode, system atuomatically installed same version of driver, but now everything is ok.

    Same worked with Lenovo x230 laptop.

    Hope this will help anybody.

    Factory New MSI GS70 shipped with Windows 8.0

    OS sits on SSD and restarts no problem under 8.0.  After upgrading to 8.1 through the store restarts take up to 5 minutes!

    As computer was Factory New I thought I would experiment and carried out a full factory reset and restart times went back to normal.

    Once again after "upgrading" to 8.1 restarts hang and take around 5 minutes to boot up.  Normal shutdowns and power on seems normal though.

    Seems to be an 8.1 issue with restarting???
