Windows 8.1 Pro x64 UEFI very slow boot and shutdown

Ever since I upgraded to Windows 8.1 via the in-store update my PC takes a good 3-4 minutes to boot!!! I am on a GA-X79-UD3 + i7-3820 + Samsung SSD 840 for system drive. I have updated all my drivers to Windows 8.1 compatible ones and still. I have checked via Samsung Magician and the drive is using AHCI mode on (Intel PCH) Sata 3 6Gb/s.  I have tried restoring my UEFI to default settings and enabling Fast Boot but still?? On Windows 8 it would boot in 5 seconds....

EDIT: Have tried Safe Boot and Clean Boot, still same

EDIT2: Will any Microsoft guy chime in?

    I strongly desagree with you !!

    • MS have to ensure a compatibility between Win 8 and Win 8.1. There is no warning about drivers compatibilities when you update Win 8 to 8.1 via Windows store. This appear like a standard update, but the result is for many people that they get big problems.
    • MS has absolutly not answered to this problem which concern a lot of personns and of course not fixed. 

    My opinion is that MS can be blamed by its customers both for the problem and the way in which they try to (not) solve.

    The ideas to solve in this thread take many time to test (days!!) and some major fails can occurs in you Win OS. The only way i find to solve safely was to install from zero Windows 8 again ! And now it is working fine but without Win 8.1

    Suggest you read the complete thread to find out how others solved this problem. It is not MS's problem, it is the providers of bad drivers. MS can do nothing about that.

    There are some good ideas in this thread that will help you diagnose and fix the problem.

    Factory New MSI GS70 shipped with Windows 8.0

    OS sits on SSD and restarts no problem under 8.0.  After upgrading to 8.1 through the store restarts take up to 5 minutes!

    As computer was Factory New I thought I would experiment and carried out a full factory reset and restart times went back to normal.

    Once again after "upgrading" to 8.1 restarts hang and take around 5 minutes to boot up.  Normal shutdowns and power on seems normal though.

    Seems to be an 8.1 issue with restarting???

    I experienced same issue with Lenovo x220 laptop - had Win8 and after upgrade to 8.1 system rebooted slowly, but shutdown/start operation was fast, also something prevented system to hibernate correctly. I analyzed log files and memory dumps, problem was in iastora.sys driver. Simply removed it, then after reboot system fell into BSOD, after it run into Safe Mode, system atuomatically installed same version of driver, but now everything is ok.

    Same worked with Lenovo x230 laptop.

    Hope this will help anybody.
