Ever since I upgraded to Windows 8.1 via the in-store update my PC takes a good 3-4 minutes to boot!!! I am on a GA-X79-UD3 + i7-3820 + Samsung SSD 840 for system drive. I have updated all my drivers to Windows 8.1 compatible ones and still. I have checked via Samsung Magician and the drive is using AHCI mode on (Intel PCH) Sata 3 6Gb/s. I have tried restoring my UEFI to default settings and enabling Fast Boot but still?? On Windows 8 it would boot in 5 seconds....
EDIT: Have tried Safe Boot and Clean Boot, still same

I'm thinking it's a W8,1 Pro only issue; anybody with plain W8 having this probelem? Anyway since so many variable between my wifes SSD Ultrabook and my old HP Desktop; can't be sure of anything; escept when I goat W8.1 pro back in January for the desktop; start up time wiere close to 70 seconds; now only 50 seconds with W8.1. Wifes regular W8.1 is 10 seconds; was about the same with W8.
I don't know about everyone else, but I tried uninstalling my third-party AV and it didn't help. My issue isn't as bad as everyone else' (20 second boot vs 1min boot), but it's still significant enough that I went back to W8. I ALWAYS keep my startup clean of any unnecessary processes, so that's not the issue either.
Until Microsoft issues an update specifically fixing this boot issue, I am not going back to 8.1. I honestly saw no benefit anyway. Bringing back the start button was nice, but I have start8 anyway.
Remove your 3rd party Security Suite . Windows Defender (comes intalled on W8.1) maybe in conflict. Check speed with ONLY Defender installed. see if that helps, and, if you still want to reinstall your 3rd party security; hopefull it will integrate with Defender like it should. If not, call Microsoft Security help desk.
Try System Refresh, instead of Restore.
MY wife's ultrabook has plain W8, My desktop has Pro. Now my wife's start up after upgrading to W8.1 is 12 secdonds; the same as befor the upgrade. My desktop is 37 seconds; the same as before the upgrade.. Could be something to do with the pro vx the plain W8. However i beleive it's more to do with her SSD vs my old 5200 drive. I was able tos shave 12 seconds off my startup on desktop becuase it did take that much longer after I upgraded; dissabled some start up apps/programs .
