Windows 8.1 Pro x64 UEFI very slow boot and shutdown

Ever since I upgraded to Windows 8.1 via the in-store update my PC takes a good 3-4 minutes to boot!!! I am on a GA-X79-UD3 + i7-3820 + Samsung SSD 840 for system drive. I have updated all my drivers to Windows 8.1 compatible ones and still. I have checked via Samsung Magician and the drive is using AHCI mode on (Intel PCH) Sata 3 6Gb/s.  I have tried restoring my UEFI to default settings and enabling Fast Boot but still?? On Windows 8 it would boot in 5 seconds....

EDIT: Have tried Safe Boot and Clean Boot, still same

EDIT2: Will any Microsoft guy chime in?

    After a few times closing after 5 minutes it then started to take 7 minutes again.

    I have found that suggestions to create a shortcut for SHUTDOWN are working for me.

    The following advice to:-

    Right click mouse on the desktop ; select  New, Shortcut and then type "shutdown /s /t 30" into the location box and then give a name such as SHUTDOWN starts shutdown after 30 seconds and completes in a total of 1 minute.

    You should not hold power button at startup, it will save time only when you shut down your PC.

    In most laptops holding power button results in force shutdown, which will just turn it off.

    As long as Windows is already shut down and only some driver/bug/etc is holding the final confirmation there is no harm in that, but if you do that on startup you are interrupting loading process and unexpextedly for Windows cancelling startup. I don't think you can do any damage by that, but you won't get any closer to booted Windows.

    Whoa! Tried holding power button down after screen goes black and at startup had to go through "Select keyboard......... etc".

    Thanks for that. I have now updated all drivers and the first time shutdown was quick but now it has just reduced from over SEVEN minutes to five mins 30 seconds. Startup is now faster at about 1 minute. Thanks for the tip about just holding down the button after black screen.

    Microsoft need to fix the base causes.

    Same problem here - upgraded to Windows 8.1 same day I got my laptop with Windows 8 and loading times are very disappointing.

    Each load and shutdown were taking about 3-5 minutes, rotating circles are going fast as they should, but before them (in case of boot) and after (in case of shutdown) there was 3-5 minutes of black screen with laptop fan and power indicator being on.

    I've managed to fix boot time and reduce black screen to 10 seconds by removing Intel HD graphics and Nvidia drivers pre-installed by Acer and installing fresh ones from Intel and Nvidia websites, but this did not affect shutdown time, it is still taking 3-5 minutes of black screen to shut down.

    Now I just hold power button and force shutdown as soon as screen goes black, this does not affect anything and Windows does not see this as a crash.

    Still, would be nice to fix this.
