Windows 8.1 Pro x64 UEFI very slow boot and shutdown

Ever since I upgraded to Windows 8.1 via the in-store update my PC takes a good 3-4 minutes to boot!!! I am on a GA-X79-UD3 + i7-3820 + Samsung SSD 840 for system drive. I have updated all my drivers to Windows 8.1 compatible ones and still. I have checked via Samsung Magician and the drive is using AHCI mode on (Intel PCH) Sata 3 6Gb/s.  I have tried restoring my UEFI to default settings and enabling Fast Boot but still?? On Windows 8 it would boot in 5 seconds....

EDIT: Have tried Safe Boot and Clean Boot, still same

EDIT2: Will any Microsoft guy chime in?

Yes, I did the upgrade to 8.1 but for the first couple of days after the upgrade shutdown was quick. What you're saying is that it is a Win 8.1 problem and not a HP problem? I will do a restore to before the update and see what happens. Thanks.

I have a "new" HP Envy and the startup is fine but the shutdown takes about 4 minutes.  Have run also run ccleaner and superantispyware and the shutdown was fine for one time but then went back to the 4 minute shutdown.  Also tried reinstalling a couple of the programs to see if that helped.  Nothing.

Ever found a solution for this? I have a barand new HP Envy 17 running Win 8.1. The machine take 4 to 5 minutes to shut down and I am waiting for HP Support to call me back as promised (2 days of waiting now for them to do this and I do not get my hopes up too high).

I assume you upgraded from 8.0 to 8.1.  My problem on a 2 month old Envy was the same as yours.  The fix was to do a complete refresh.  Takes a lot of time because you need to reload all your programs but it did get my shut down to about 15 seconds (down from the 4 plus minutes).

Hi. My mobo has two Broadcom ethernet. I have solved the problem myself removing the updated driver of Ethernet: using the integrated driver of Windows the speed is good!

I think that temporarly you can try to remove or disable lan driver or disable the ethernet from BIOS.

If the slowest time disappear then it's possible to test with other LAN driver.

Note: in other cases the problem could be the Ethernet Bridge of Windows if enabled: removing and restoring can help to solve the problem.

    Thank you.

As for your problem, I agree with "rangerat" that there might be other drivers installed in your machine that are currently not compatible with Windows 8.1

You might want to try to check on the drivers yourself, although that might take some time ( consumed a whole day to find the issue - even called in sick to work on that day haha ( I just cant get that problem out of my mind )

Apologies if I wasn't able to help out.
