Nokia 1520 Microphone problems

I also replaced my 1520 with a 950XL. Great phone but lacks the build quality of the 1520 but thankfully also weighs a lot less. My perfect phone would be the 1520 remade to the same size and weight as the 950xl. I've had a lot of software issues with Windows System, don't know how much longer I can stay with this platform, but there are no favourable alternatives

I did the same thing with my 1520, replaced it with a 950xl.    I replaced the 1520 microphone board (twice) and each replacement fixed the microphone but killed something else: Charge-port dead on 1 replacement board, antenna dead on the other replacement board.   That made me give up on the 1520 and I replaced it with the 950xl.    1520 is a better build quality, better phone all-round, except for the microphone.

I finally went back to Android when the Alaska-Airlines mobile app was dropped (I travel a lot) and there’s only one way to sum up Android after Windows Phone: “What a mess” it’s like stepping back into the 1990s UI world, basic stuff doesn’t work together (it’s like Android’s built in 30 different software shops), security is scary, and I just have trust issues with Google.

I’d be back on Windows Phone tomorrow if Alaska-Airlines bought back their mobile application.

I hear you.  For me it was the fitness Apps, I am an avid cyclist and it was just too much trouble.  At one point I actually bought a cheap unlocked Android just for the Apps - but got tired of carrying 2 phones.   If MS gave us a way to port apps from iOS or Android Id come back in an instant.  Also dont trust Google ......

Yeah the Band2 falling apart was another nail in the WinPhone for me.   I used Band2 for business notifications and not so much for fitness but when the Band2 strap fell apart for the second time (the strap appears to deteriorate with perspiration after about 6 months), I went looking for a replacement device that did notifications.  I wound up buying a Garmin Fenix3 as it was the only device that did notifications (calls, appointments, text, etc.) on a Windows Phone, except.  It was hit and miss that the device worked with a Windows Phone.  Every release of Garmin software or Microsoft Software and the Garmin would quit working.   The Garmin device worked flawlessly with Android.  

So the Band2 failure and abandonment is one on Microsoft.  The Band2 was such a great device for business notifications that all other devices pale in comparison.  MS should have fixed their Band2 issues (e.g. Band3 or a replacement strap option) and not just walked away from it.  removing Band2 just put the Window Phone in the unsupported category for any other type of device..  Fitbit is not a good replacement offering compared to Band2 and there are few others out there that play in WinPhone arena.

Maybe the answer is the Surface Phone to get the public to wake up to how good this MS stuff really is.  Then Apps and other products may start appearing and actually work 😊

I recently changed out my 4 year old battery with a new battery and had the same problem that the call mic ceased working after putting it back together.  I took your lead and took a thin shaving of silicon from some silicon cookware I had on hand and slid it underneath the bracket you pointed out above to provide a bit more additional pressure on the battery snap connector.  The call mic and Cortana started working again after putting it back together!  Thanks for the tip!  2 of the 3 Led's at the bottom still do not work, but they really haven't worked consistently since I bought the phone and do not really need them for reference anyway.  Having the call mic available was essential though.
