Windows Wireless LAN 802.11 Extensibility Framework using too much CPU power

Recently, my computer's been running significantly slower. A quick look at my task manager showed me that the "Windows Wireless LAN 802.11 Extensibility Framework" was using up 40+% of my processing power, and I have no idea why or how to reduce it. I'm fairly certain it's doing things it shouldn't be doing, but again, I have no idea what to do. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi,

The Windows Wireless LAN 802.11 Extensibility Framework provides an interface to Windows wireless security and connectivity features for the drivers of wireless network adapters.

Let’s try these methods and check if it fixes the issue.

Method 1: Run System Maintenance troubleshooter and check.

a) Press Windows and X key together and select Control Panel.

b) Click on Troubleshooting.

c) Click on View all option on the left side of the Windows.

d) Click on System Maintenance option.

e) Click on Next and follow the onscreen instructions to troubleshoot the issue.

Method 2: C heck the functionality in safe mode with networking.

Step 1: Start your computer in safe mode with networking and check the CPU usage.

If it works fine in safe mode with networking, let’s place the computer in a clean boot state.

Step 2: Perform clean boot.

Clean boot will help us identify if any third party applications or startup items are causing the issue.

    Hi,

    it seems too simple to be true, but I disabled my network adapter and re-enabled it in the Network Connections window. I tried it ten minutes ago, so I cannot tell for sure it won't come back, but so far my cpu went back to normal.

    It worked for windows 10 creator fall update plus whatever updates as of Dec. 9, 2017.

    Same problem appeared after latest Windows update (Win10, notebook, Realtek Wi-Fi adapter) .

    I solved it next:

    1. download latest adapter driver FROM MANUFACTURER.
    2. uninstall my WiFi device drivers,
    3. restart Windows
    4. install driver from manufacturer.

    Worked for me but I also shutdown and rebooted. The process must get stuck in a loop or something.

    At step 3 instead of going into 'properties' just click 'disable'. 

    I let my computer tire itself out before enabling it again. It literally hasn't been this quiet since I first bought it. Windows needs to get their stuff together and figure out how to fix that.
