Hi Gemma,
Do you face this volume issue only when the speaker is plugged in?
What is the make and model of the computer and the speaker?
Have you installed any third party software to manage the audio options?
If the volume keeps resetting to 40% every time you start the computer, it could be due to some incorrect settings due to any third party audio management applications or due to a driver issue.
I would suggest you to first disconnect the speaker to check if you are facing this issue only when the speakers are plugged in.
Method 1:
If you have installed any third party audio management applications, I would suggest you to first uninstall them and then check if the issue persists.
Method 2:
If the above steps didn’t help or if you haven’t installed any third party audio management applications, then I would suggest you to reinstall the driver and check. Refer to these steps:
a) Press Windows key + X, select Device manager.
b) Locate the audio device and right click on it to select properties.
c) In the driver tab, click on ‘uninstall’ to uninstall the current audio driver.
d) Restart the computer.
e) Now, windows would have loaded with the generic audio driver, check if the issue persists.
f) If yes, visit the manufacturer’s website to download and install the latest driver and check.
Try these steps and let us know the results. We’d be happy to help if you need any further assistance.
