Problem solved. :) My Samsung (Ativ 6 - NP680Z5E) laptop, after putting anything (even a paper clip) into the 1/8th" audio hole and trying to turn up the volume above 39, displays a "loud volume warning" banner that requires interaction before allowing me to move on with whatever task I was doing before hand. After a lot of phone calls, I have found 3 ways to resolve this issue...
- Sell said Samsung device, and never purchase anything branded Samsung again.
- They made this banner warning happen intentionally, see details below.
- Uninstall the Realtek audio driver, and let windows control the audio.
- Worked on my machine, but may not work on yours.
- Use an older driver from Realtek.
- Samsung sucks for making me even look to other OEMs for a driver on a year old machine.

I have spent many days trying to resolve this issue without losing the many valuable features available from this sound card. The windows driver does a good job of running the Realtek device, however it does not drive it as hard (lower output from device), and the windows driver does not provide access to certain features of this device. EQ is the feature I am most interested in. The EQ allows you to store "presets" which is very handy when going from the car stereo, to home stereo, to portable speakers as all speakers sound different. I frequently use my audio jack for bigger speakers, and not so much headphones.
- "Sell said Samsung..." This is the best option. I hate having to sell such an investment, $1500 on my end. I spoke with Samsung, even let them remote in. Samsung, in the end, said, " All of our devices do that, and we will not help you disable it." Therefore, selling your Samsung device is the best option as they intentionally did this screeching stop all work of a banner and don't care what you plug into it. They obviously don't care about their customers' needs either. It is better to get out of a bad investment before it costs you more money, sell now.
- "Uninstall the Realtek audio driver..." From the "uninstall or change a program" section of the "control panel". You will need to restart your machine for the uninstall of the Realtek driver, and placement of the Windows driver. After you uninstall Realtek, and restart, the Windows driver should now be in place and no more banner. Windows had a hand in this too. They are the ones that enabled Samsung and Realtek to do this to us. If Microsoft was any better at customer service than Samsung, they would help us disable it. They know how, they just won't tell us.
- Use an older driver. I found the Realtek driver 6.0.1.6699 works well on my machine, with no banner. Further more, it does not change the volume based on what whether or not anything is jammed into the hole. It turns out that Realtek had a hand in this too. Realtek has no customer service, and only has their latest driver listed on their website 6.0.1.7xxx. Samsung, Microsoft, and Realtek all had a hand in this bad banner, and none of them are willing to tell me how to make it stop. Samsung, so far as I know, is the only OEM that uses this "banner" portion of Windows and the Realtek driver. Other OEMs, like Sony and Toshiba, use the same Realtek devices and drivers with no banner. This is why I listed "sell device" as the #1 option. Other companies do not practice this bull. After comparing computers, devices, and drivers I found Samsung is ultimately to blame for actually implementing this stupid false sense of security. The people at the EU are way more stupid for coming up with the regulation. This laptop was sold in the US as a US model and should not be held to dumb EU standards. I say dumb because the device has no way of telling what you put in that hole. Seriously, I don't recommend trying it, but a paperclip will trigger this volume banner. Samsung has no drivers on their website, their SWupdate program must be used to obtain any Samsung drivers. I found my copy of 6.0.1.6699 from another OEM. I don't endorse Softpedia.com, and if you use it you do so at your own risk. I used this one...
It seems to work well. No banner, full function of the Realtek device (I have EQ! :)), and no other issues on my Samsucks laptop.
Good luck to all. Boycott Samsung whenever possible.
