just got a new windows 8.1 tablet ( omni 10 if you need to know for some reason ) and i keep finding myself wanting to turn off my screen while keeping the tablet from turning off or sleeping. i usually us my tablet to download OS updates for my android phone, or other large files, but whenever i push the power button the tablet goes into "sleep" mode and stops downloading everything. the only solution i can find is to keep the screen on, but id rather not do that to keep it from killing the battery faster that it needs to. also cant find anything in the power options about screen power off timer... only sleep timer :/

    Hi,

Thank you for posting in the Microsoft Community Forums.

Follow these steps and check the status.

    -          Access “Control Panel” and click on “Power Options”.

    -          Click on “change plan settings”.

Set “never” for “put the computer to sleep”. This will ensure that the computer does not go to sleep mode.

Select couple of minutes for this option “turn off the display”. When you select 1 or 2 minutes for the turn off display, the battery power consumption is also reduced.

Once this is done save the settings and check if this helps.

I have an HP (AMD A8 processor) laptop, running Windows 8.1. I've used the 'Control Panel\Power Options to have Windows turn off the screen after 1 minute. Until very recently, this worked and the screen would religiously turn off after a minute (without 'sleeping' the computer). Suddenly it has stopped working. The machine will go into sleep mode at the time I've set, or I can sleep it manually, however, if I have a download running and just leave it, the screen no longer turns off after one minute (or any time, for that matter).

Can you explain why this is the case and how I can fix it, please?

I have Windows 10 on a laptop hooked to a monitor which has better sound.

To turn off laptop screen, hold down Fn and then F6.

My laptop screen goes dark and monitor stays on while playing sound.

Press any button to turn laptop screen back on.

Not sure if this will work for you too..

    Aloha!

Securely warn, this method require you not to lock your screen(Windows 10, Win+L).

So anyone who can touch your computer they can fully access your PC login account.

This is strange. I don't understand why.

Under Windows 10, my device will force to sleep once I turn off the monitor

(hardware or software method), or lock the screen(Win+L).

I mean, all of the legacy Desktop Win32 Program paused. But Windows Store Apps is fine.

The others posted some method not work for me.
