Windows 8.1 tablet, turn off screen while keeping tablet on?

I am not able to use the other one in this thread because it's too easy to turn it back on by touching the screen. At least, with the one I use, all I have to avoid is the Windows home capacitive logo. I carry mine around with the screen off, so need less screen sensitivity. Also, I like the other gestures, as well.

I am very thankful for all experiences which youve described, really. Sorry my experiences are little different. I have to admit that my earlier post was based only in theoretical level but Ive promised to try it. In a few moments ago I finished attempt with TMGS app. I have to say it is beautiful app with huge potential but on my Iconia W4-821 is not usable for turning screen off. The result is exactly equal as many small apps which are designed for turning display off. All these attempts are based on same base but use a different ways. This is work on sending very specific instruction to system with expectation to provide a task. There is not any strange thing. Strange is only banding TurnOffDisplay function with Sleep function. Ok. TMGS and others can turn off display but they can`t divide this two, in my opinion, key functions.

Very nice and simple attempt to turn off display is sending a screen to only second display. What a pity that Windows check connectivity and when discover that there isnt any other display than return back to previous status with warning message about impossibility to find second display. This one looked like real trick. Maybe in registry is possibility to turn off checking external devices but I cant do this.

Of course! "Power: Turn Off Display". I use several of the gestures. I found the app looking for a gesture to unhide the task bar. Ended up using the windows key/t key combination with a gesture instead of the stock canned unhide because I had to chase it with the stock vs key combination leaving it up. Great app, though

Could you be more specific and what you programmed the gesture to do?  I looked at their list and "Increase/Decrease Brightness" and "Sleep, Hibernate, etc..."?  Did you use either of those?  Thanks,

Also, the other recently offered solution of downloaded code works but gums up the lock screen too much to be useful.

svorenp, if you will read my earlier post, I think it will enlighten you. I have been using this app for near a year and it is perfect. Leaves the tablet in tablet mode and simply turns the screen off. Unlike the other solution mentioned, it doesn't get turned back on with mouse or screen activity, rather a tap on the Windows key, as with sleep. Also, in my post I stated that Windows 10 in fact does, natively, make this available as part of the power button settings and I posted a screenshot. Can't understand why you stated this as a hardware limitation when the only thing hardware is there for is to activate a software/firmware setting. And you posted with such authority. I am only posting from personal experience with this app. You can't have tried the app I mentioned if you're stating that it doesn't work. It works beautifully! Try it. What can it hurt?
