For how long?
Windows 8.1 tablet, turn off screen while keeping tablet on?
just got a new windows 8.1 tablet ( omni 10 if you need to know for some reason ) and i keep finding myself wanting to turn off my screen while keeping the tablet from turning off or sleeping. i usually us my tablet to download OS updates for my android phone, or other large files, but whenever i push the power button the tablet goes into "sleep" mode and stops downloading everything. the only solution i can find is to keep the screen on, but id rather not do that to keep it from killing the battery faster that it needs to. also cant find anything in the power options about screen power off timer... only sleep timer :/

2015-07-10T19:54:21+00:00 Hey, I tried it and it works great. Will have to check for performance hits, but actually it's pretty slick. Thanks for sharing! And all the Microsoft bashing - some of which I agree with - but I have to say that the surface Pro 3 has so much more to offer than any other PC/tablet that I'm willing to have a glitch like this once in a while. Just my $.02 worth.
Time has passed. The first time I did it, the screen went to black. Now it goes to the lock screen and stays on. When that finally times out, the music STOPS!! Have you actually tried this solution to listening to music with the screen off?

Microsoft understands one thing, and one thing ONLY: Sales volumes = PROFITABILITY!!! Even then, there are "factions" inside of Microsoft who are able to continue to "sway" the better judgement of the leadership. Such a shame. Microsoft COULD be far more profitable IF they would only LISTEN to their users!

2015-07-10T07:28:01+00:00 I've managed to fix this by selling my Windows tablet and buying an Android one instead. Works straight away out of the box.
Doubt I'll ever buy a Windows tablet again given the lack of official response to all these complaints.
