How do I get rid of the pop up tip boxes in Windows 8.1?

After upgrading to Windows 8.1 I get large pop up boxes at the edges of the screen with tips such as "swipe to switch between apps". The boxes don't go away. How do I get rid of them and/or disable this feature?

I have the same thing. No touch screen, but windows 8.1 acts as if I can touch away the pop up. I did get rid of it (for now) by moving my mouse to the top left of the screen and clicking to go to the last app I had open.

I had the same thing happen. I swiped the arrow all the way to the right and it disappeared. So fsr it hsasn't reappeared.

Further description: Go to P C settings, click on PC and devices, go to corners and edges, at the top, you will see app switching, click to off. That's how I got rid of mine, no problem since. Hope this helps

I think that at least some of you can't get rid of the window because you disabled the charms. Well, at least that's what I did. Anyway, pressing Windows+Tab solved the problem for me.

And yeah, way to go Microsoft, keep on sucking with Win 8.

Regards, someone who never felt the need to check out other os's on the desktop before Windows 8.

The advice i found in http://www.askdavetaylor.com/how-do-i-get-rid-of-win8-switch-between-apps-tip-windows/ solved the problem for me:

* go to [device manager][Human Interface Devices][HID-compliant touch screen]

* select the second tab [Driver]

* disable th selected device (click the button [Disable])

* re-enable the device (click the button [Enable])

problem was solved for me

my specs: (Windows 8.1 / touchscreen / user has administrator rights)

I got this tooltip when I mistakenly launched an app on my 3 screen desktop system.

The stupid tooltip says come in from the side of the screen, assuming you only use 1 screen. So appart from being annoying and, apearently you've to go to the corner according to you, being wrong it's just like most of the rest of this less then good OS based on the assumption you'll be running a touchscreen....

The way to get rid of it for me was to open up another app and dismiss it. Hope these annoying tooltips are now a thing of the permanent past(although I suspect they will appear again after the next fresh installation).

Now for you'r windows 95 reference where the mouse on a pc had become more common through earlier windows versions(3.1 and the like), the touchscreen has only now with Win8 been made to the new MS standard.

Apart from that the tooltip you display here only takes up minimum space on you'r toolbar and is not covering like 10% of you'r screen in an annoying place.

Furthermore Apps and swiping and the like are not as central to the user experience of win8 as was the startmenu to win95.
