How do I get rid of the pop up tip boxes in Windows 8.1?

After upgrading to Windows 8.1 I get large pop up boxes at the edges of the screen with tips such as "swipe to switch between apps". The boxes don't go away. How do I get rid of them and/or disable this feature?

I have the same thing.  No touch screen, but windows 8.1 acts as if I can touch away the pop up.  I did get rid of it (for now) by moving my mouse to the top left of the screen and clicking to go to the last app I had open.

Further description: Go to P C settings, click on PC and devices, go to corners and edges, at the top, you will see app switching, click to off.  That's how I got rid of mine, no problem since.  Hope this helps

I think that at least some of you can't get rid of the window because you disabled the charms. Well, at least that's what I did. Anyway, pressing Windows+Tab solved the problem for me.

And yeah, way to go Microsoft, keep on sucking with Win 8.

Regards, someone who never felt the need to check out other os's on the desktop before Windows 8.

Yes, this worked for me, windows button and tab button at the same time, thanks

(Oi, didn't mean to reply directly to "Shawn 'Cmdr' Keene" but rather to the topic in general... plus only read the first page of posts. Therefore, I'm sorry for any confusion or redundancy that may cause.)

I figured I'd reply here to help anyone still having this problem, who doesn't have a touchscreen, & who tried the "move the mouse to the top-left corner" thing without any results. That's what happened to me. I felt like I was going insane! Same thing happening to you? Read on before restarting...!

It's true that if you just do what they say they'll go away. But what about when you can't, for there's no app to switch to, & your computer has no touch screen? After a major headache, I realized that you can simply go back to the tiles(hit the windows button on your keyboard, or click the windows button at the bottom left of the desktop screen(where the start button used to be), & pick an app, any app. Once that's open, go back to the desktop(leaving the app open of course), and now, tada, the top-left movement works!

This was so confusing & difficult for me(&probably is for others, too) simply because Windows set it up to /seem/ like more than it is. The option for swiping & tapping shouldn't be on non-touch screen computers. It's confusing, even for vets like me. Frustration for no reason. The entire thing was too asinine for my taste, haha.

Obviously if they won't make the change(getting rid of it for computers like mine right off the bat), I still think it'd be better if you were able to choose right off the bat whether you wanted these tips of not - lots of programs give you the option with a checked box that you can click to deselect upon installation; I think Windows 8.1 would benefit from something like this during installation/set up of the OS.

The option to remove these "tips" DOES exist in Pro+ versions of Windows 8.1, but I have the poor man's version, so I can't do a thing about it. I think they should update this, making it so ANYONE with Windows 8.1 can configure these user settings. That would /truly/ be both helpful & fair, in my opinion.

Best of luck to you all. Take care!
