Tractor feed printers margin issues in Windows 8.1

Attempting to print from two different Windows 8.1 systems to three different (2 are the same brand Epson FX-890) tractor feed printers results in the entire document printing but the right margin is about 25-30% in the page resulting in everything printing out of alignment.

I have reinstalled the drivers changed every setting I can think of. I spoke with Epson tech support which referred me to Microsoft Tech Support which is not free. The exact same documents print just fine using these printers on Windows XP, Windows 7 and Windows 8 we only experience this problem with Windows 8.1 systems.

I know that isn't a lot to go on but thanks in advance for any help, at this point my only option is to revert the system back to Win 8.

Thanks.

Oki included a 9Pin Class driver in Windows 8.1.  I'm surprise Oki support did not suggest the drivers they included in the product.  Give that device driver a try.

This seems ok for Epson printers but what about OKIData. I have a 320 Turbo and have the same issues.

I contacted OKI and they had me install the “generic text only” driver which like the Epson is usable but still not right. The alignment is closer but still not where it belongs.   Also the ticket is 4” long but would not line up to the bottom of the ticket to be separated. I had to make it 4.25” to make it line up to the actual 4”.

Frustrating is not the word.  I would like to use stronger language.

This is not the only problem with 8.1. Has anyone tried to send a fax? You can’t. The Fxst30.dll file has to be exchanged for an earlier ver, windows 7 or 8, and surprise the fax is now working.

The point is that there are problems that need to be addressed and the ans to the printer issue, while a band aid is not the total ans. I need my deliver tickets to be 100% not 50%.

Okay, I may have spoken a little too soon. Using the Class driver did fix the right margin issue but now the whole page prints about a 1/4 of an inch too low. My operator can walk over to the printer and drop it down a 1/4 of an inch before printing and it lines up fine but of course if anyone else not on Windows 8.1 tries to print those are out of alignment. This is at least a workable situation for now but this driver doesn't really give you any options just Paper Size (Letter & A4), Copy Count and a Print Quality for (244 x 144, 120 x 144 & 120 x 72).

I wonder if I can tweak the Windows 7 & 8 systems to line up in conjunction with the 8.1 systems?

The Epson 9 pin Class driver is the only driver Epson included in Windows 8.1 for this device. Anything that does not have Class driver in the name from Epson will be using the failing rendering path. Switch to the Class driver and see if that formats properly for you.

    thanks

Alan you're a genius! It is printing great now, it doesn't look exactly how I want font wise but this is definitely useable and I may even be able to tweak that.

For others here is what I did based on Alan's instruction.

Remove all instances of the current printer driver, Add New Printer and set it up to manually setup a network printer, enter the IP information, name the port etc.. Make sure that you uncheck to have your system query the printer for a driver so that you can actually select a driver when you get the driver selection screen select Epson and 'Epson ESC/P 9Pin V4 Class Driver'.

It may have worked to simply click the 'New Driver' button on the advanced tab but I wanted to just start from scratch and make sure I was not going through another print server to talk to the printer.

Good Luck, and thanks Alan and Arun!

Please provide screen shots with step by step instructions to get an Epson FX80 print driver to interface with a dot matrix printer on a Windows 8.1 machine.

Words here to not assist in helping resolve the matter if questions arise as simple as "How do we do that?"
