I get error code 800F0922 when installing KB2962409.

How can I fix my error we couldn't complete the updates?

I have been stuck with the April 2014 roll-up update KB2919355 failing to install for months now, including this thread's error message, 0x80070057, and other variants. I was finally able to fix it today by a brute force but clean and simple method described here: http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-repair-windows-8-1-installation/.

This is not a scam or anything strange. It is simply re-installing Windows using your original system disk (assuming you have access to that) *while keeping all your files and apps*. Nothing is lost as long as you choose the selection "Keep Windows settings, personal files, and apps" -- but that was the default setting anyway, so it's hard to go wrong.

This won't work for everyone, since you may not have an original installation disk. You also need your product key and enough space on your drive for the new installation (maybe 20-30 GB). You also have a few cycles of updates to go through after the installation to get right up to date. But this has finally worked for me, and I had tried many many things before this.

The old Windows installation is left on the disk, but I will wipe that out in due course once I've been running a little while. For now, everything is clean and all updates are finally up to date!

I just came back to my laptop and noticed that it was offering me KB2919355, 2.6MB, listed as "Windows 8.1 Update" with the description for Windows 8.1 Update 1 ("you must install so you can continue to receive updates"), and KB2975719, 169.6MB, listed as "Update for Windows 8.1", "install to resolve issues".  Both KB2975719 and KB2919355 are already installed (listed under "View update history"), and given the garbled nature of the descriptions/sizes (I double-checked, the dreaded -355 weighs in at 2.6MB so it's not what it claims to be) I'm guessing Windows Update/Microsoft has screwed something up pretty badly.  Luckily after the previous update fiasco from Microsoft I'd disabled automatic install so I got to opt out, but I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this.  It looks like the whole disaster is about to hit us a second time.

Update: Just found this. So it's the same update offered again, but not quite the same thing gets installed. What a mess!  I've just installed it and it didn't brick my machine, but then I haven't touched the 170MB re-install of the dreaded -5719 yet, I have no idea what that's going to end up doing. Just when you thought you'd dodged the bullet the first time, Microsoft comes and takes a second swing...

After having tried to update my windows and experiencing all the problems detailed by other contributors I did a manual install and following the instructions on the message I found that the update that failed is KB2975719.
