Is there a solution to this yet? Both my daughter and I are still not able to get the windows update. Surely there is a solution by now? DId I miss a thread somewhere?

2014-07-27T06:36:53+00:00 Hi, the error code 80242014. I've been trying to install this update for 3 months now. It reaches 74% and then hangs. After a couple attempts it says "we couldn't complete the updates, undoing changes. Don't turn off your computer."
It's reached the point that this is my last stop before formatting the hard drive and putting win 7 on it. I don't want to, i like win 8 but I can't have an insecure pc either and since MS made the insane decision to release a buggy update and then tell everyone that they won't get any security updates if they don't install the update that they can't install.
any ideas guys? I've tried everything i can think of.

2014-07-27T06:50:32+00:00 The only solution now is a refresh/rebuild. There's no other automated fix. The servicing stack is screwed up and can't get this update installed.
I'm sorry that I don't have any better solution.

Hi Susan, Thankyou for your prompt and honest reply.
Once i've finished backing everything up i'm going to give a refresh a go. I'll let you know how i do.
Any solution, even if it's difficult to swallow, is still a solution.
