This error may appear anytime a Windows Update fails. To investigate possible solutions, we need to start with the specific error code.

We can do this by viewing your update history.

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen (or, if you're using a mouse, pointing to the lower-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer up), and tap or click Settings.
  2. Tap or click Change PC settings, and then Update and recovery.
  3. Tap or click View your update history.

View failed update error code.

Please post here with your error code, so that the Community can try to help guide you appropriately.

How does one determine the error code when the update seems to complete and then fails on the reboot?   I too have the same problem on this thread, the update goes to 100% when installing, but upon reboot goes to 21%, says it cannot continue, retries, reboots again.   Gets to 20% or so again and then finally fails and says that it is "undoing the changes."

When I check the update history, it shows as if the update installed correct (about 8 times) though it clearly is still available for download and install and clearly did not work.  No error code seems to be available.  How do I find out what the error code is, and has anybody found a working fix to install this update?

I installed all of the other 5/14 updates just fine, just not KB2919355 which has failed many times over the last couple of weeks...

    Thanks,

    Ron

After the roll-back occurs, when I check the update history, it says "No updates have been installed yet."  I have been able to install all of the updates except for the big one.  There are no error codes.  After it finished the installation, it reboots, then begins configuring at boot up.  It hangs at 75%, and says it can't do it, so it restores the pc back to previous; no explanation, no error codes.  All drivers are up to date.  Takes about 3 hours from start to finish.  I have done all the trouble-shooting that the MS tech said do.  What now?

I have exactly the same issues with KB2919355 as MST_LEECHIPTURNER down to the 75% install where it tries twice and then reverts back.  I tried everything I read except resizing partitions and refreshing Windows, so I hid that update.  Now I get an 800f0922 error when installing KB2961908 without KB2919355.  Some other updates did install OK.

Robert, I have the original Windows 8 OEM disk that I bought when I built the machine.

Sounds like you could at least create another partition, install W8, update it and then use that as /source:  maybe even with /LimitAccess.  But what I was wondering is what if you just make a semi-right guess about /source: without /LimitAccess does that make WU do anything different?

I hate to say this, but I really don't know what any of that means. Sorry but you would need to provide step by step instructions.

Just got off the phone again with Microsoft technical support. No help at all. Once she tried all the same things we have been trying, she again said I need to buy Windows 8.1 and do an in place upgrade. This sucks.

I should have mentioned in my previous note that I am running Windows 8.1 Pro, 64-bit.  My partition size is 334 GB with 192GB free, so space is definitely NOT the issue.  I have never had any problems with this installation before and I have no intention of re-installing windows just to make an update work.  My system worked fine before this update and it still works fine without this update.  I assume (hopefully) that Microsoft will fix the problems with this update eventually and it will one day install.   If someone has any suggestions for something that worked, I'd be happy to try it.  I have already tried the DISM suggestions that were suggested on the previous thread, but no luck with those.

    Regards,

    Ron
