My computer wont shut down. It just keeps on timing out .I went to control panel and tryed system recovery. No luck my Toshiba satellite computer just keeps timing .The blue circle keeps spinning around PLEASE HELP

I didn't reset winsock, but did click on the link you provided. That update installed, no problem. Try diagnosing the symptom first. One possibility would be that your Language setting is broken. Alt-T O, Alt-L... Oh. In W8 it now apparently depends on something in the Control Panel... Ah. But it is still the same idea as always, you put the one you want at the top of your list and you can do that using Move up or Move down. Then to be sure that you got the EN-US download perhaps you would have to try changing your Language settings to be only EN-US or at least put that one on the top. Etc. Note that this is a guess. It would be more appropriate to diagnose your symptom further, e.g. using a Network Capture to see what is being requested that gets rejected. HTH Robert Aldwinckle

It finished successfully and wanted to reboot. I rebooted. It started the install process, 30%, 35%, 45%, and then the dreaded 75%. Just like always, it stuck for 45 minutes on 75%. Then it said it couldn't complete it, and to please wait while it restored my system. 2 hours later, my PC is back to where I started. All updates installed EXCEPT for 19355. The update history is blank, and of course I have done all the DSIM, etc. Soooo, just continue to wait for MSFT fix...? Don't think there's anything left to do? MSFT tech wasn't any help when I called them...

What is the option if you have an x86 based system? I have already spent more than 16 hours on this problem. This is a high end ALIENWARE PC. I'm not starting over. To keep it running smooth, I turned automatic updates off. I needed to do that, because every time I went to shut it down, the nightmare of getting to 74%, then undoing changes began again. I'm not going through that any more.
