My suggestion would be to do a complete factory and upgrade from there; not the best solution buit one that has work for those who have done so . Remember to backup everything you can't afford to lose. Also all Apps you installed from DVDs or downloaded from the web ( Like Microsoft Office Norton will have to be reinst5alled from their original media source. I'm not an advanced computer user, my computer is a tool, and I have no interest in fixing a tool that isn't really broken. I'll live without the WIndows Updates until my computer stops functioning altogether, and then start from scratch. This has been an extremely disappointing experience with OS 8.1 and Microsoft both.

That is your right and I might be inclined to do the same but the Security updates, updates to flash Player, The fact that I wouldn't be able to update to the next major upgrade next Spring would make me change my mind.

Once in, turn off automatic updates, download and install any updates except KB2919355 , this is the one that has issues. Doing this will allow you to use your notebook however you will not be able to install any updates until the KB2919355 update is installed or until Microsoft issues a working replacement, which means you will be more vulnerable to viruses and malware. At present the only other things to do are to wipe your system and reinstall everything and hope it works.

Let it run, the sign in screen should appear after several attemps, mine takes several hours. Once in, turn off automatic updates, download and install any updates except KB2919355 , this is the one that has issues.

Doing this will allow you to use your notebook however you will not be able to install any updates until the KB2919355 update is installed or until Microsoft issues a working replacement, which means you will be more vulnerable to viruses and malware.
