This error may appear anytime a Windows Update fails. To investigate possible solutions, we need to start with the specific error code.

We can do this by viewing your update history.

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen (or, if you're using a mouse, pointing to the lower-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer up), and tap or click Settings.
  2. Tap or click Change PC settings, and then Update and recovery.
  3. Tap or click View your update history.

View failed update error code.

Please post here with your error code, so that the Community can try to help guide you appropriately.

    Hi Merry,

Try and follow the suggestions from the given article:

    Windows Update error 0x8007000d:

    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-ca/windows-8/windows-update-error-0x8007000d

Important : While performing refresh apps you installed from websites and DVDs will be removed. Apps that came with your PC and apps you installed from the Windows  Store will be reinstalled. Windows puts a list of removed apps on your desktop after refreshing your PC.

    Thanks,

                 Error code 800F0902

Must be a new code.  The last one in that category is  800F0901

Find a log where it was used.  What's the context?

I rec'd a slightly different notice than above.  Sorry, we couldn't complete the Windows 8.1 update.  Restoring your previous version of Windows.  When I check "Change PC settings" there is no entry for "Update and recovery."  Included with the "Sorry" notice was the following number: 0xC1900101-0x2000A.

    Thanks,   Jack
