Error: We couldn’t complete the updates, Undoing changes. Don’t turn off your computer.

So what happens if the error screen never goes away? I can't even get to the sign in screen.

A few updates seem to be installed, but the majority not. the error code says 80246013, i guess this is true for all of them, just checked the first ones. interestingly, updates concerning the safety have been installed.

the problems are present since a week, when i put it back on factory settings a week ago, since then it asks me to activate windows, but when i try use this option in the pc-settings, the whole window just closes. I checked the hardware with a software of the manufacturer, but it said, everything was alright.

what can i do?

I have been unable to update most of everything for a long while now.

This error may appear anytime a Windows Update fails. To investigate possible solutions, we need to start with the specific error code.

We can do this by viewing your update history.

1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen (or, if you're using a mouse, pointing to the lower-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer up), and tap or click Settings.
2. Tap or click Change PC settings, and then Update and recovery.
3. Tap or click View your update history.

View failed update error code.

I have Windows 8.1. There are NO error codes in the history. I have just run the Update troubleshooter, again. I thought that it was fixed the last time a few days ago, but every time I switch on the computer, I get the message Unable to complete updates, retrying, do  not switch off computer'.  This takes nearly 2 HOURS!, before I can log in.

I have had 8.1 since the start of the year, and I have always had issues with Updates. Updates failed, undoing changes, do not switch computer off. blahblah.

Initially, I had the Updates installing automatically, but the computer was working hard chugging through  the updates while I was logged on. I changed to Manual update and all I get is the above message about updates failing, or undoing changes etc. I am back to Automatic Updating, and still getting the above message. The number of Updates is astounding.

I think Microsoft has a hide releasing software that has that many bugs in it. Updating should be straightforward and no stress.

I have run the Update troubleshooter again today, and apparently everything is fixed. Tomorrow might be a similar story as this morning.

I have seen no fixes here for me. Not impressed.
