In the case of the first one its category isn't even there but guessing by 0x24xxxx being "success codes" maybe 0x8020xxxx is a new category of general failure, e.g. something more credible than "This should never happen", etc. Heh. Since 0x00240001 means 0x240001 WU_S_SERVICE_STOP WindowsUpdate Windows Update Agent was stopped successfully how about 0x800200001 may mean WU_ F _SERVICE_STOP WindowsUpdate Windows Update Agent was stopped UN successfully Again, avoiding speculation, dig into the details and find out for sure. I got the same message several times now, but luckily my brand new computer will turn off. When I read the steps to fix this, I went to history for updates, and every update says that it was successful. NO error messages. This seems to be an extremely common problem. How should it be solved ??

The 8.1 update failed without an error code(WindowsUpdate_dt000 OR 80240054). Just the statement "We couldn't complete the updates, Undoing changes. Don't turn off your computer." I went through all of the admin Command line commands before I tried to install the update, but it didn't help.

how about 0x800200001 may mean

WU_F_SERVICE_STOP WindowsUpdate Windows Update Agent was stopped UNsuccessfully
