So, I see that I am one of hundreds of thousands that are having the SAME problem with Windows!!!! What I would like to know after months and I MEAN months of trying to fix this problem when is Windows going to send out an UPDATE to CORECT the Update so we can all move forward with our lives and love our pc with Windows again!??? I purchased this pc with Windows in Dec 2013 and I can not even begin to express how I feel at the moment of this issue after trying to deal with it for months!!!! This is NOT a funny problem and I have tried EVERYTHING that I can to correct the problem safely with NO knowledge of computers!!! I was FORCED into this problem becuase updates are NOT a choice! It may say that it is...but it is NOT. I do NOT see a resolution and keep getting smart **** people sending me e-mails asking me if I have tried all the solutions that can be found online!!!! I keep telling them that I have tried it all several times and none of them seem to understand these words....I guess reading from a "script" makes them encapable of understanding that thousands of us are having the same problem! Windows 8.1 Sucks and I just want to know when the update is going to be sent to fix the issue at hand!

Microsoft has sent out a tool called the system update readiness tool, if that doesn't work, then they can't automatically fix your issue. You will need to contact Microsoft support directly to get them to look at your system. When you've said you've tried everything... have you specifically done a DISM command (see http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/26512-dism-fixing-component-store-corruption-windows-8-a.html ) as that would be what I would do. Unfortunately, I can't give you a magical button to fix component store issues.

Okay everyone, I have been on the phone with Microsoft and they wanted to charge me $100 to fix the problem and after I declined, I finally figured out that the whole problem is because of one of their recent update releases was corrupt causing all these issues for everyone. They have released a patch for the update, (in another update) which you will need to fix this problem. So let's fix this ****! Windows and the "x" tabs at the same time Select Command Prompt (Admin) Type: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /CheckHealth Hit Enter It will take awhile, after it gets to 100%, you will then need to go to the next step, Type: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /ScanHealth Hit Enter Once that one is done, only a couple of minutes, the final step, Type: Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth Hit Enter Once this step has completed, close all windows, including the command prompt and restart Windows. Now, reconnect to the internet and go to control panel and run your Windows Update. Trust me, it will NOW Update! Before actually installing all the updates, look at ALL of them, you will notice probably 3 of them have parentheses at the end of the update saying "WITHOUT" a particular code, these are you fixers! Install ALL the updates and run it again, then again until it no longer comes up with anymore updates. Your back in business! Now, if I could just get someone to hire me and give me a REAL job so I could make some REAL money! Best wishes EVERYONE!

Just so everyone reading this is clear, this system corruption doesn't occur after any one particular update. Malware, hard drive issues and antivirus can cause system corruption which then leads to this symptom. This DISM command is the recommended way to "service" Windows 8.1 these days.
