This error may appear anytime a Windows Update fails. To investigate possible solutions, we need to start with the specific error code.

We can do this by viewing your update history.

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen (or, if you're using a mouse, pointing to the lower-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer up), and tap or click Settings.
  2. Tap or click Change PC settings, and then Update and recovery.
  3. Tap or click View your update history.

View failed update error code.

    I ran DISM exactly as the article instructed and it reported success.  I then ran Windows Update and got the same failures as I had previously witnessed, with the same "We couldn't complete the update.  Undoing changes," etc...

    The updates that failed (and have consistently failed several times) were:

    KB3000061

    KB2989542

    KB2978041

    KB2987107

    KB3000988

    Previously, these updates also failed:

    KB2998174

    KB2972103

    KB3001237

    KB3000869

    KB2977292

    KB2968296

    Sorry I didn't provide the label on the updates, but I couldn't find a way to print out the log.

    Upload it to your OneDrive and then share the link to it.

    Alternatively my approach for self-support is to run ProcMon to capture a trace of the update in progress.  Filtering with Operation Is WriteFile gives a useful representation of all of the diagnostics which are available.  Then you could actually get just a list of those files by using ProcMon's Count... tool.  E.g. count the number of unique filenames showing in the Path field of the filtered events

    Robert, Procmon is not end user friendly.  It's a geeky tool.

    Let's try another tact.  Install one update one at a time.  Which one has the problem?

    and also I'd strongly recommend starting a brand new thread so you can get better fresher eyeballs on your case.  Buried on page 50 of this one you get a bit lost.

    It just says KB2919355 failed to update. No error code.
