This error may appear anytime a Windows Update fails. To investigate possible solutions, we need to start with the specific error code.

We can do this by viewing your update history.

  1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen (or, if you're using a mouse, pointing to the lower-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer up), and tap or click Settings.
  2. Tap or click Change PC settings, and then Update and recovery.
  3. Tap or click View your update history.

View failed update error code.

Please post here with your error code, so that the Community can try to help guide you appropriately.

"Swipe in from the right edge of the screen (or, if you're using a mouse, pointing to the lower-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer up), and tap or click Settings."

The people who write these things always forget an important step: GETTING TO A POSITION WHERE THE SETTINGS MENU CAN EVEN BE ACCESSED.

As it stands my computer is stuck at 'We couldn't complete the updates', restarts, then comes right back to that point. I can't 'point to the lower-right corner and click Settings' because my computer isn't at a state where that's an option.

Wish Microsoft would offer a fix to this, just waited an hour wasting my time at work waiting for this problem to resolve itself.  Horrible problem that deserves their attention, truly atrocious issue that has potential to create huge problems for organizations.  Wake up MS helps your customers a little bit, so worried about all this licensing **** your willing to forfeit what use to be a great product.
