KB3000850 is an optional, non-security update (yes, even though it may be offered as an Important update). Feel free to hide it & move on with your life.

THANK YOU PA Bear!  After several weeks of ignoring "we couldn't complete the updates, undoing changes" messages, interspersed with frustration at not being able to find the issue, your information above finally resolved it.  I unchecked it and the 50+ other updates installed seamlessly.

No error code.

Previously you saw 0x800F0922.   You think you got past that now?   <eg>

Did you look for some relevant logs?  There (most likely) will be useful clues found that way.

However, since it happens during a boot I suppose records about crashes then could be lost.  Supposedly there is a way of tracing boot related events using WPRUI.  I don't know if anyone has tried that approach.  Otherwise I suspect it would be possible to request a dump for the event but I don't know off hand how to do that either.

Summary:

I am unable to install the KB2919355 update for my Windows 8.1 machine (x64). It fails with the error message indicated in the title of the thread but no error code. The update history shows no record or error message.

Im having this exact issue myself. Apparently it´s been going on for people since 2014 when the update was released and still no reliable solution? I´ve tried manual installation but nothing changes. Everything seems fine up to 99% when it fails. No error code. It just reverts the changes. So frustrated with this. I always thought Win10 would override this problem but I dont get offered it on this computer since its not updated. I have two other Win8 machines that both got the Win10 invitation and updated just fine.

This worked for me after 3 months of failed updates.  Only took 5+ hours.  Totally screwed up Chrome.

This error may appear anytime a Windows Update fails. To investigate possible solutions, we need to start with the specific error code.

We can do this by viewing your update history.

1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen (or, if you're using a mouse, pointing to the lower-right corner of the screen and moving the mouse pointer up), and tap or click Settings.
2. Tap or click Change PC settings, and then Update and recovery.
3. Tap or click View your update history.

View failed update error code.
