I'm giving up on updating with KB2919355 and getting functioning results.

I will run win8.1 without kb2919355 installed...

 Could I create a system image on this laptop and then use it to recover the one that is being stubborn?

Are they networked?  Looking at that  /source:  parameter  it implies that you just need to point it at something usable.   So, if it was pointing at the other's WinSxS, and it was the same version that you were trying to get wouldn't that be "usable"?   <eg>   Then in that case you probably could even use the /LimitAccess option and save yourself having to connect to WU.   ; )

The first quote was about the /Enable-Feature command's use of that operand but I would suspect that rather than having significantly different functionality the documentation is different to avoid being redundant.

I have tried to follow steps by Vivian Samartha but next command failed with error code0x800f081f.:

DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

I went back to factory specks using Windows 8 DVD which I made when I first got my computer. And as far as my Refresh & Reset are concerned I replaced the wiped out drive with a custom Refresh image and a complete system Image no problem there and something any user can do. @Silverback_1, I assume trying to create a system image from the failing laptop is unlikely to be useful.  I have a second Win 8.1 laptop with the same hardware and similar software configuration.  It successfully installed KB2919355 early in May.  Could I create a system image on this laptop and then use it to recover the one that is being stubborn?

Have tried every method I can find on the internet to install the dreaded 8.1 update (KB2919355) but every time it fails to configure and returns to previous setting. Totally frustrating! Surely Microsoft can produce an update that does not generate such a mess. I await 'another' patch ed update!!!
