I wiped my system on my other computer and reinstalled everything. I don't seem to be having any problems anymore - also all downloads from Microsoft have had no issues so far.

2014-06-14T17:14:39+00:00 This is probably because you already have a partial installation of KB2919355 which the new attempt is unable to overwrite. This results in the installation attempt being undone like you describe.
So do the following next.
Go to Programs and Features in Control Panel and click the link to "View installed updates".
In the next menu, copy/paste: KB2919355 in the Search field top right. If it's installed, it'll appear below and you can uninstall it from there.
If it's not there, close Programs and Features, right click the Start button and go to Command Prompt (Admin). Then copy/paste the following command and hit Enter:
DISM /online /remove-package /packagename:Package_for_KB2919355~31bf3856ad364e35~amd64~~6.3.1.14
If successful, use the same command prompt to run the following command:
DISM /online /cleanup-image /startcomponentcleanup
When that one finishes, copy/paste the fiollowing command:
DISM /online /cleanup-Image /restorehealth
When that completes, install KB2919355 again.

2014-06-14T15:49:19+00:00 What is the option if you have an x86 based system?
I have already spent more than 16 hours on this problem. This is a high end ALIENWARE PC. I'm not starting over. To keep it running smooth, I turned automatic updates off. I needed to do that, because every time I went to shut it down, the nightmare of getting to 74%, then undoing changes began again.
I'm not going through that any more.

2014-06-14T15:29:48+00:00 Yes, try and install that manually too: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42335
If you get error 0x80071a91 when you attempt to install, download this fix first and then try again afterwards: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42372
Here's the background info on the latter: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2939087
Did not need to do the above. All of the updates were installed. I purposefully unchecked 19355 because I wanted to install it solo. Rebooted. Went to Windows update, and installed 19355. It finished successfully and wanted to reboot. I rebooted. It started the install process, 30%, 35%, 45%, and then the dreaded 75%. Just like always, it stuck for 45 minutes on 75%. Then it said it couldn't complete it, and to please wait while it restored my system. 2 hours later, my PC is back to where I started. All updates installed EXCEPT for 19355. The update history is blank, and of course I have done all the DSIM, etc. Soooo, just continue to wait for MSFT fix...? Don't think there's anything left to do? MSFT tech wasn't any help when I called them...
