I am beyond angry. I purchased a brand new Hp with Windows 8.1 installed on it. I have had it less then a week. I noticed tonight that it needed to install updates. So I clicked shut down and install. It got stuck at 19%. This also happened with my new Hp laptop. So after a few minutes, I did a hard reset and it looked like it was going to work...until it didn't. I get the message that We couldnt complete the updates and we are undoing them do not turn off your computer. So I waited. And it restarted and nothing. I tried a hard reboot again. And I got the same result. After mulitple reboots I tried hitting F8. I was able to get into the safe mode and tried to un-install the updates that had failed. They would not un-install. So I had to reboot again. Then I tried to do a back up of my system. And that would not work. Thankfully I have an external hard drive that I back up on regularly and just backed up files a day ago. I was able to get into safe mode and move my files that I had not backed up and reset my computer. That makes me so angry. Why in the hello would Windows NOT fix this issue that has evidently been around since April? I am now back into my computer and I will fix it so that any updates are manual and not auto. I think it stinks that I had to go through all this just to get my PC back.....

If you are just as crabby and stubborn as I am and want to participate please email me. But please don't just hide this update and consider it fixed - your machine will not be protected. You have to repair reinstall or reinstall. You can't just take no action and expect it to be magically fixed. It won't be.

I don't have any other ideas other than a repair install over the top (finding media online) or rebuilding the pc. I'm truly sorry I have no other guidance. :-(

Same problem as many here, KB2919355 fails with error 8007007E. Any help would be appreciated. @hurleyp, there appear to be many reasons why KB2919355 is not installing. Some people have been able to recover, others have had to do an in-place repair or a re-install (both require Win 8.1 installation media) or rebuild their their systems from scratch. In the end I had to do an in-place repair (I suspect I had a different root cause) but at least the steps did not appear to cause any further damage. Doing a clean boot is also a good idea in case some application/service is interfering with the update process.
