The only solution now is a refresh/rebuild. There's no other automated fix. The servicing stack is screwed up and can't get this update installed.
I'm sorry that I don't have any better solution.

Hi, the error code 80242014. I've been trying to install this update for 3 months now. It reaches 74% and then hangs. After a couple attempts it says "we couldn't complete the updates, undoing changes. Don't turn off your computer."
It's reached the point that this is my last stop before formatting the hard drive and putting win 7 on it. I don't want to, i like win 8 but I can't have an insecure pc either and since MS made the insane decision to release a buggy update and then tell everyone that they won't get any security updates if they don't install the update that they can't install.
any ideas guys? I've tried everything i can think of.
Is there a solution to this yet? Both my daughter and I are still not able to get the windows update. Surely there is a solution by now? DId I miss a thread somewhere?
For approximately a week, I have been trying and failing to install a number of updates:
KB2961072
KB2973201
KB2973351
KB2971203
KB2962872
with no luck. The computer insists that it be restarted to install the changes, but every time results in the error listed above while taking my computer out of commission for around 10 minutes each time. When checking the update history, I saw that every failed update has the same error: error 8007007E
Possibly of note is that at least two Definition Updates of Windows Defender (def. 1.179.1216 & 1.179.1243.0) were successfully updated within that timeframe.
This is very frustrating and quite worrisome, please help as soon as you can.
My error code is E0000100.
