Is there a lawyer in the house? I believe what Microsoft deserves is a class action law suit for breaking thousands of users' computers with a faulty upgrade and then blaming the users or the OEMs, not directly but through their moderators who post things like this is my personal opinion in does not mean Microsoft..... blah, blah. I alone spent over 30 hours trying to fix the mess Microsoft created and now it says that they cannot help us! Anyone ones to buy a Lonovo Ultrabook 4th gen i5, 500GB hybrid drive restored to the factory shipped condition at half price?

If it was Microsoft updates there would be a **** of a lot more people with that problem Most people are up-to-date and will be able to get todays update. You say that you are at factory that means it was provided by Gateway. They get cop;ies from Microsoft at a discount in return Gateway is responsible for tech support , not Microsfot. I don't understand what the problem is?? Windows 8.1 (without mandatory update) is just fine. Just turn your automatic updates off until next year. By then it will be fixed, and you haven't wasted any time, money, or grief. Just keep your Malwarebytes and Spybot up-to-date. You really have no other choice because none of the "solutions" work, and Microsoft isn't aware that they have re-created Vista. So, avoid MS Updates and be happy.

None of us community members are forgetting that. Unfortunately there's not much we can do. :-(

You didn't buy Windows 8 from Microsoft you bought from Gateway with your computer. and they are the ones responsible to see that it works Talk to Gateway they have to provide a way for you to get back to factory Specs. My Gateway PC works just fine, the problems arise when I try or the system automatically tries to install a Microsoft update to a Microsoft operating system. Using the OEM as a scapegoat is BS and it doesn't apply to the folks who downloaded from MS store or purchased from a retailer....the issue is a Microsoft 8.1/update issue....let's not forget that fact. When I have an Adobe issue or an issue with other OEM installed software they don't send me to the OEM they help me.....it's called customer service.
